I woke up spooned by Gerard.
Burning in the comfort of his chubby arms for a while, then I sat up, stretching and yawning.
An unusually bright light from behind me caught the corner of my eye, I turned around to see that the wall behind the bed no longer stood there.
Vast hills of ravishing green intertwined with trickly rivers, it was just sunrise, with beautiful pinks and oranges painting the sky. A cool breeze blew, signifying the fact we seemed to be at a pretty high altitude.
I didn't realize my mouth had dropped.
"Gerard, Gerard wake up!"
I shook his shoulders violently, and a groggy Gerard squinted up at me.
But as soon as his eyes caught a glimpse of the world behind him all thoughts of getting mad at me for waking him up disappeared.
"Wha...where?" He grumbled.
"I don't know,"
Without a second thought I jumped out of bed and walked over to where the pale with marble floor stopped and the grass began.
Feeling the grass tickle my toes felt quite amazing. It had been a while.
"I bet you we have to do some other crazy shit,"
"Think he's watching?"
"When is he not,"
I stepped fully out under the sun. The cold breeze bit at my exposed arms and my feet were mudded with soil.
I motioned for gerard to come over, we stumbled down a steep grass side down into a shallow pebble filled river.
I paddled my feet in the cold river water, taking in the feeling of the pebbles under my feet.
"DR MURPHY!"
My sudden call out made Gerard jump next to me.
"What are y-"
"DR MURPHY CAN YOU HEAR ME?"
No response.
"Gerard I don't think he's here or watching us,"
"Then who opened the...wall"
"Maybe he left it open, maybe it's been open all night"
"Why would he do that? That's like asking us to leave,"
He's got a point.
"Maybe... that's what he wants."
"What?"
"Maybe he's out here. Maybe we have to find him,"
"And you really want to do that?"
I punch his arm.
"I'm just saying, if I knew where the hell we are, I would've taken off ages ago,"
"You would go home?"
He goes quiet. Serious now.
"Well...yea, I don't wanna stay here... I miss my mom and my brother like crazy...and I still have to go to school... and..."
"I thought you didn't like the way your life was."
"I didn't. But if anything, I'd much rather be surrounded by people I don't particularly get along with than not be surrounded by people at all."
I let his words sink into my skin. He sounds so hurt and vulnerable. Like it's the one thing he truly longs for.
My mind is wandering, thinking of this when, again, my eye is caught by a faint light blue dot in the hill a mile away.
I squint, trying to make out what it is when it's joined by a smaller purple dot. Moving around back and forth.
"What the...?"
I stand up trying to get a better view, there's a large blac-
A tent.
A tent and the blue and purple dots were people. Camping.
"Gerard, Gerard people!!!"
We run down, tripping and tumbling over rocks and holes in the soil with our bare feet.
Closer now, I see that they're an old man and woman, the blue and purple were their jackets.
"Hey!! Hey!!!!"
I call out, still stumbling and tripping. They look up in our direction. A smile spreads across my face and not soon after we're running the last hundred meters up to their campsite.
