We walked down multiple hallways that all looked the same, I thought back to history lessons and how the Nazi's would drive the Jews around in circles so that they couldn't tell where they were going and couldn't escape.
I prayed that the same destiny wasn't awaiting me.
The baldys didn't turn around to check I was still following them, they walked ahead and I followed.
We eventually got to what seemed like a dead end, a white wall that just ended the corridor. The baldys stopped walking, is this where my dormitory is? Baldy one put his hand against the wall, a humming sound came from somewhere behind the wall and a small port just big enough for me opened up from the wall. I found this fascinating.
"So....this is like some kind of space ship?"
I think out loud, my voice raspy and dry."Oh what a pleasure to have you actually show signs of being alive!" Baldy two actually looks entertained.
I give a pissed look, expecting a reply. All I get is a shove through the door.
The room is huge, white and has a high ceiling. It's relatively empty, there's a huge screen coming out of the ceiling with a lot of writting and information on it. The room is still pretty bright and colder than the corridor but I walk in regardless and start looking around.
I freeze mid-step when I notice another person huddled in the far corner of the room. My heart starts to beat faster.
From this distance I can't see their face, all I can see is that they're wearing full white pants and a long sleeved shirt.
Everything is so quiet you could hear an ant drop a breadcrumb. I see their eyes peek from behind their knees. We're just staring at each other when the same lady's voice says:
"Welcome. The time range given for breakfast has ended, A change of clothes will be provided at mid-day, daily, after showering. It is currently 10:49 AM"
I take this as a sign that I'm- we're being watched. There's more humming, as if mechanics are moving somewhere behind the walls and another screen emerges from the ceiling, back to back with the first one.
I glance over at my roommate to see that they're watching the screen almost impatiently.
I realise why.
I stand underneath the screen watching as all my personal information is displayed in scientific literature and proof.
There's a pie chart that shows the balance of the nutrients in my body and a bar graph that shows in percentage how much of each hormone is swimming around my body.
As well as my age, date of birth, place of birth, full name, there's even a picture of me in the top left corner that I don't even remember being taken.
I stare up in tired awe. Even though I had slept for who knows how long in the back of that truck I still feel like my muscles could give out any moment. And they did:
I got very light headed and suddenly felt like I was in a dream, like none of this was real. My eyelids started to feel heavy and my vision started to sway from side to side.
I realised next that it wasn't my vision that was swaying from side to side. It was me. And almost as soon as I tried to compose myself I saw the floor getting near me. An outburst of pain in my head that suggested I had collapsed.
I lay there on the floor feeling the weakest I've ever felt in my life, and then, peacefully, everything went dark once again.
