Thanks to Lorraine's pills, I slept pretty well. Well that was until my alarm went off at seven AM. I really don't want to go. I started this school as a twin and am going back as a single person who did something unimaginable.
As I go through my closet, I don't know what to wear. Skinny jeans and a T-shirt will do. Honestly, I don't even care.
Sarah, again, is gone. I'm assuming I'll be walking which is probably the best option for both of us. I'm starting to get used to being alone.
The walk was quiet and as peaceful as it could be. Besides thinking about the accident, I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to do any classwork when my right arm is still in a cast and a sling.
When I finally got to school, I could feel, like laser beams, all eyes were on me. I couldn't make out what most were saying due to the fact they were whispering, but I had an idea.
"Hey Casey.", Saben said to me. He's never talked to me before. He's a part of the popular scene. I'm not popular but I'm not unpopular either. I guess I'm somewhere in the middle and I've always been okay with it.
Saben wasn't the first person to say hi to me or ask how I was. In fact, he was one of what felt like a hundred people.
Going through my locker to grab my first book, I hear, " Casey."
                              It's Sam and Leah.
Sam and Leah have been my friends since forever. They're cousins although most would never know since they look nothing alike. Skin, eyes, hair, everything is different.
                              "Hey.", I told them.
"We've been worried about you.", Sam said.
"Yeah, sorry. I've just been going through a lot."
"Don't be sorry.", I could tell that they were trying but had no idea what to say.
"I gotta get to class!", I told them.
"Okay, well we'll see you later?", Leah asked.
"Yeah. Sure.", I replied just wanting to get moving.
I shut my locker and walked past Sam and Leah in the direction of my first period class.
                              ...
Lunch has finally arrived and I managed to avoid Keegan the entire day. The last I saw him, both me and my sister were drunk. Talk about dysfunctional.
Forty minutes until lunch is over. Forty minutes that I have to keep to myself. As I leave my fourth period class, and not wanting to deal with the crowd of people in the lunch room, I decide to go hang out under the bleachers. The only ones ever over there are the ones who want to make out. They won't be worrying about me, my issues, or what's happened.
"Casey, right?", I hear a voice say as I sit on the grass for away from basically everyone.
I look up and it's Liam. He's eighteen, has his own motorcycle, and is considered the " bad boy" of school. He's not bad, he's just always rocked out to his own beat.
"Want one?", he asked after pulling out a cigarette and lighting it.
"No, I'm good. Thanks.", I replied.
"This place is so lame.", he said. " All the superficial problems and social groups.", he thought out loud.
I couldn't agree more. There's so many worse things than not being popular or not being the head cheerleader or not being invited to a specific table to sit at during lunch.
"I'm sorry to hear about what happened.", he said before taking a puff.
"I don't really want to go into it.", I told him.
"I get it. I lost people too.", he said before adding, " There's a party tonight. You down?"
"I don't know. The last thing I should be doing is partying.", I replied.
"Or it could be thing you need to do. Take your mind off things. It's my friends party so most of the people who are going are gonna to be from his school. You won't have to worry about people knowing what happened or having to be reminded."
I thought about it before he replied again.
"Here.", he said as he hands me his phone. "Put your number in. I'll text tonight in case you change your mind."
I took the phone and put my number in.
"Cool.", he said as he took his phone back and started texting.
My phone vibrated. The text was from him.
                              (Text from Liam) "It's Liam."
"Save it.", he said before adding, "I have to get going. Gotta take my bike to the mechanics."
                              "School isn't over.", I said.
"It is for me. Besides, high school is for college and I don't plan on going. I'll hear from you later?", he asked.
I smirked and nodded my head. He smiled back before leaving.
Liam has a certain charm about him. He's cute, rough around the edges and will stand against authority. We aren't even close to being similar but for some reason, he made me feel a little better. Unlike everyone else, he wasn't feeling pity for me, being nosey, or blaming me for what happened.
                              Maybe I will go tonight.
