On the drive home with Sarah, I played music on my phone. Thank God I brought my headphones. I got to the next song in my library and it wasn't even a song at all. It was a voicemail from Ryan that I had saved after she died. I play it more than anything else on here.
(Voicemail from Ryan) "Casey, where are you dweeb? We're all waiting by the fountain. You know? That big thing with water. Hurry up."
She left it on my phone when we went to the mall with our friends. I had wandered off to other stores when they wanted to go to Hot Topic.
Once arriving, we got inside the house and I begun to walk to the staircase.
"Wait.", I heard from behind me. I turned around to face her.
"I don't know who you think you are or what's gotten into you to make you think this okay, but it sure as hell isn't."
"Is that it?", I asked with my headphones still in.
Angering her more, she said, "Give me your phone."
"No.", I replied.
"I'm not asking. I am the adult.. you are the child.", she said as she moved closer to me.
"Sarah, this is all I have left! All my numbers are in it. My whole life is in here!", I said raising my voice.
"You should of thought about that before ditching school and running away."
Putting her hand out, I set my phone in it after unplugging my headphones.
"You will go to school everyday and come straight home. NP computer, no friends, no phone."
"For how long?", I asked trying to not to make matters worse.
"Until I say so.", she answered. "You can try to pull the shit you've been pulling but I promise you that you will not like the results and your phone will be gone permanently. Go to your room. I hope you like the hospital because your weekends will be spent there from now on."
I went upstairs completely over all of this. I may have taken Summer from her but by her taking my phone, she just took the rest of Ryan from me. I lied to her though. My phone wasn't the last thing I had. What awaited me under the toothbrush holder was and it was time to visit it.
The next morning came quickly and I had no choice but to get dressed for school. I decided before leaving to leave my books and notebooks. What's the point of even trying?
"Let's go.", I heard Sarah say from downstairs.
"Coming.", I replied without any enthusiasm.
She drove me to school much to my displeasure.
"Straight home after school.", Sarah said as I got out.
I automatically had eyes on me from the other kids. I didn't want to be here much less interact in any shape, way, or form with anyone. Fine, stare. But leave me the hell alone.
"Hello, Casey.", Mrs. Bowen said as I too a seat in her office. I was told to come here before going to my first class.
"Hi.", I replied.
"You've missed a lot of school lately. We've been worried"
Yeah, okay. Whatever.
"You've been worried about losing state money for every kid that misses a day. I know how this works."
