(POV SARAH)
"So what happened here?", I asked a young patient. She was a fourteen year old girl who came in after she fell down the stairs.
"I must of tripped!", she replied as I put a brace on her leg.
"Tripped? How did that happen?", I asked.
"I don't know. There must have been something at the top with f the straits that I didn't see.", she replied.
I didn't believe her.
"You know, your lucky that you didn't break anything. Or worse.", I let her know.
Her dad waited in the room with us not speaking a word.
"Can I have a moment with your daughter please.", I asked him.
"I'm not going anywhere .", he replied.
"Look Mr. Owens, I was asking to be nice. Please step out.", I told him. Not happy about out, he did as I said.
"Did someone push you?", I asked the girl. She went silent refusing to answer it. "Okay, let's make sure everything is okay. Can you take you your sweater off for me?
She took it off to unveil two arms full control f old and new cuts. I was shocked.
"It helps me.", she replied, referring to her arms.
Another nurse walks in, "Sarah, David's awake. Want me to take over?"
I got up and walked to the door where the nurse was. Quietly, I told her "I think her dad is abusing her. Call child services after cleaning up her arms."
"Okay", the nurse replied.
Quickly I made my way to David's room and then everything starting sinking in. How am I going to tell him about the girls? How am I going to tell him that Summer and Ryan are gone. I know no matter what, now is not the time. You're never supposed to tell someone in his condition bad news for fear of them going into shock.
I walked into his rooms and he was looking at me.
"David", I said crying. Kissing him, I don't know what to say next. He can't speak until the breathing tube gets removed but I know what his first question would be... "Is everyone okay?"
"It's going to be okay I assured him. " You were in an accident nearly a month ago."
I have some time before I have to tell him the truth and I'm going to take it.
