(POV SARAH)
I'm not sure if I'm ready to be working again but the house and bills won't pay for themselves. At least I'm still here with my husband, David.
"Sarah?", I hear from behind. Turning around, I realize it's my dad, Eric.
"Dad, what are you doing here?", I ask.
"I though we could have lunch in the cafeteria together.", he said.
"Umm, yeah okay. I'll meet you down there in twenty?"
"I'll see you there.", he replied.
I realized how much he's try to do for me lately. Me and Casey. I at least owe it to him to have a cafeteria lunch with him on my break.
I sat down at the table with a sandwich similar to the one he got.
"So how has work been?", he asked.
"Getting used to it again. Today's my first day back.", I replied.
"You know if you aren't ready, Lorraine and I can help you out with whatever you need to pay."
"No, I think it's good for me to start getting back into everyday things."
"Good. I think so too.", he said. " I think it'll be good for both you and Casey."
"Yeah.", I replied.
"How is David doing?", he wondered.
"His vitals are stable. We're just waiting now. If he doesn't wake up soon, I'm going to have to start thinking about taking him off life support."
"He'll wake up.", he replied.
Wanting to believe that's definitely going to happen I said, "Yeah."
"And Casey? How is she?", he asked me.
"She seems fine. She's been hanging out with friends and is back at school now." I think she's actually handling this better than me.", I confessed unsure if that was the case.
"Honey, I want to bring something up but I don't want to alarm you or accuse anyone."
"Okay. What is it?", I asked.
"Has Casey been acting weird at all lately?", he asked.
"She was just in a fatal accident so I don't know what you mean by weird."
"Lorraine gets medication for the pain she gets since her knee surgery. Now, she could have misplaced them, but I was wondering if you'd think Casey might have taken them for any reason"
"Casey? No, she's never done anything like that.", I replied.
"She did drink that day at the house. Its just that she was the last-", he was trying to say before I cut him off.
"Dad, no. She drank because she was being young, dumb and just left the funeral of her sister and niece. She wouldn't do have taken those pills. Now if there's any other accusations you have, say them now. I have to get back to work."
He didn't know what to and I had nothing else to say.
"Well I'll talk to you later. Love you.", I said before leaving him at the table to eat alone.
Who does he or anyone else think they are to act like I haven't been trying. I would know if the only child left in my house was doing drugs and also, Lorraine has been known to lose everything. I've been doing what I can in a situation I never thought I'd be in and have never been in before. I'm doing my best even if its not good enough for others.
