"You ready?", I asked my sisters husband, David.
"Yeah, let me get Summer.", he replied as he went to get my niece.
"I call first!", I shouted as I ran to the car. Ryan ran behind me but I got to the drivers seat before her and jumped in.
"Fine but I'm next and I'm first next time we drive.", she made sure I knew that being two minutes younger didn't mean I always was going to be first.
She's so annoying.
We just got our permits last week. My sister, Sarah, was supposed to take us today but she had to work a second shift at the hospital. Ryan and I have lived with her for the past few years after mom lost her battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Our dad we've never met and don't care too, but Sarah's dad is pretty cool.
"Wow. You guys are quick.", David said as he got Summer in her car seat next to Ryan before getting into the passenger seat himself.
David is the perfect match for Sarah. Fun but a hard worker, nice but not a pushover, and will do anything for family.
"Can I drive too?", Summer curiously asked thinking it was an actual possibility. We all chuckled a bit.
"Tell you what. In about 12 years, I'll teach you." Summer was satisfied with Ryan's answer.
We drove through our town, Rayden, North Carolina.
Beautiful pieces of land with flowers, apples, and inviting homes. The aesthetic was perfect for any photographer. Our town, with only 4,000 people, is pretty small but like the town in Gilmore Girls, it's quaint and close knit.Ten minutes passed and I must say, I'm a hell of a driver!
"So when we get down to the diner, pull in the parking lot. You two can switch. What'd you think of Casey's driving, Sum?" Daniel asked Summer.
"Great!", Summer replied before Ryan had to be a loser and chime in.
"I wouldn't say great but okay. Who's your favorite twin though?"
"You!", she said looking at Ryan. But I know the truth. She tells us both that haha. Five year olds are so easy to please. No one said anything else as we began driving when the light turned green.
That was the last time I heard the voices of my sister and niece. As I began to tell Ryan that I was still the cooler twin, a truck ran the light while I drove through the intersection. Everything went dark. At the time, I didn't realize that everything was going to get much darker once I awoke in the hospital.
