Nightmare Quest (Book 3)

We get back to the main plaza and see that all of Anzo's gang has left. Briggan hasn't asked me anything else about my weird episode, and deep down I'm thankful that he hasn't because I don't really remember anything other than the fact I almost killed Anzo.

Tiny bounds up to us with a smile on his face. "We cleared the rest of them out." He says proudly.

I smile back at him and ruffle the fur on the top of his head "Good job ninja boy. I bet your sister is so proud of you." In the past couple of years I can't believe how much he has grown up. He's now old enough to enroll in the ninja academy, and he did, now his training is coming along pretty well.

"Crazy how fast he's growing up isn't it?" Star says while coming to stand beside me.

"Yeah. It's hard to believe that he was small enough to fit in my arms." I reply.

Tiny bounds back over to Essix, and Star tilts her head at me curiously "Is there something wrong Azula? You seem a little off."

I tense up without meaning to. I can't lie to Star she'll see right through it. She always sees right through my lies. I sigh and look at her "Something happened while I was fighting Anzo...something took control of me...and I almost killed Anzo..."

Star crosses her arms "Let me guess, as usual you were going to keep this to yourself because you're stubborn and you never want to ask for help."

"I didn't think it was important..." I start to say.

Star laughs, grabs my hand, and drags me over to Essix and Tiny "You really gotta find a better excuse than that."

That night we all meet at Essix's house. I have no idea what's going to happen or what everyone is going to say, but I guess I'll just have to suck it up and deal with whatever comes. Essix shows us inside and we all sit down in her living room.

Essix looks at me "So what happened today? Star told me that something went wrong when you were fighting Anzo."

"I was fighting Anzo when all of a sudden something controlled me and when I came to I had my hands around Anzo's throat trying to choke him to death...I don't remember anything else...it was all a blur..." I say.

Everyone looks at me confused for a while before Star finally speaks "Do you remember anything else?"

I close my eyes and play the memory over in my mind until something surfaces "I remember that the energy that took control of me was very dark...and slightly familiar...I'm not sure why it would be familiar."

"Do you think it could be your own energy turning on you?" Essix asks.

"No it wasn't my own energy. What I felt was much darker than mine, almost like death itself..." I stop talking and it all clicks into place "The Nightmare Crystal..."

The room becomes completely silent. Essix shivers slightly and closes her eyes, no don't remembering her time with the crystal "That is the energy of the Nightmare Crystal, but how did its energy get into you?"

Memories come flooding back. Most of them I have tried to forget by burying them deep into my mind. "When I was made, I was made to be the perfect soldier...a soldier of darkness..." I stop and Briggan gives me an encouraging look and I continue "Madam Silverclaw, Dr. Rabies' commander, was the one who made me. She took a piece of the Nightmare Crystal and embedded it into my DNA hoping to make me a ruthless warrior bent on destroying everything. For a while it seemed like I was going to be just that, but then Briggan came along and he calmed something in me. Madam Silverclaw put us in the care of Dr. Rabies in the hope that he could draw out my Nightmare powers, but they didn't surface like she wanted them to. The day you saved me and Briggan Essix, is the day you saved me from being over come by the darkness...and I am forever in debt to you for that."

"I...I had no idea..." Essix says slowly.

"We will help you Azula, no Madam Silverclaw gets to take my friend!" Tiny says with fiery attitude.

I'm suddenly overcome with emotion at all of their responses. All of my friends care this much about me... "Thank you guys...you're the best." I say while shedding some tears.

"Now all we have to do is find this Madam Silverclaw." Star says.

"We can take you there." Briggan says while looking at me "We'll all help you sis."

All I can do is mutter another thank you while hugging Briggan.

"Alright so it's settled. Tomorrow we leave to find Madam Silverclaw." Essix says.

I hope you guys are enjoying it so far! I feel like these chapters are a lot longer than the ones on my other story. That must mean that I'm improving in my writing which is good for all of you guys.
