Nightmare Quest (Book 3)

I jump awake. I quickly look around and see that I'm back in Madam Silverclaw's lab. Everyone is there: Briggan, Essix, Star, Blaze, Erde, Razor, Iris, Maximo. I scratch my head and wonder out loud "So where's Madam Silverclaw?"

Blaze looks around and places her hands on her hips "It looks like she's not here."

Essix scans the room. "No she's here, she's gotta be."

Now I'm really confused. I've already heard and seen them do that exact same thing... "Was I dreaming the whole time?" I mumble to myself.

Then just like before Madam Silverclaw dives from the ceiling to attack us, but this time she manages to land on Tiny and force him into the ground. She pounces on him and her claws sink deep into his chest. Tiny's eyes grow wide and he coughs up blood as Madam Silverclaw yanks her claws out of his chest. All of us are in total shock. I didn't even realize that she has started to attack me until it's too late.

She takes me completely by surprise and I'm not prepared to even try to counterattack or dodge. Madam Silverclaw slams into me and I smash into the wall a few feet away. I try to recover by pulling myself out of the wall but then the strangest thing happens. Madam Silverclaw's Star in the middle of her forehead glows, and concrete restraints snake out from the wall and wrap around my arms and legs. I struggle to try and break free of the restraints but they don't even budge.

Madam Silverclaw laughs "Now that you're out of the way, I can finish off that pathetic group of creatures you call your friends."

I struggle more fiercely against my restraints. "Don't you dare touch them!" I snarl.

Madam Silverclaw smirks and playfully shrugs "I do what I want." She rushes forward to attack my friends.

Essix and Briggan are the first ones to meet her. "This is for my brother you witch!" Essix yells furiously.

They attack in tandem with skilled precision like they always do. Madam Silverclaw counters their attacks and quickly jabs each hand, with her claws outstretched, deep into Briggan and Essix's chests. They fall to the ground gasping for breath with black puncture wounds in their chests.

"Essix, Briggan, no!!" I shout. I try once again to break free from my restraints but they still don't budge.

Erde, Blaze, Iris, Razor, and Maximo attack her next. Each of them using their elemental powers to keep Madam Silverclaw on her toes. They are doing a decent job of defending and attacking. Then Madam Silverclaw gets around Erde's rock pillars and she stabs Iris and Maximo. Razor tries to knock Madam Silverclaw back by doing an aerial body slam, but Madam Silverclaw uses her arm whips to snag his legs in midair and slam him into the ground. She then dispatched him the same way she did with everyone else.

Blaze lets out a snarl. She holds out her hands and blasts a column of fire directly at Madam Silverclaw. Blaze's attack hits directly and she disappears in a spiral column of flames.

Then suddenly Madam Silverclaw erupts out of the flames miraculously unharmed. "Your fury burns as hot as your flames, but it's just not hot enough." She launches herself at Blaze with blinding speed and plunges her claws deep into her chest. There is no way Blaze could have even reacted everything happened too fast.

Erde is the only one left. He clenches his fists tightly as Madam Silverclaw approaches him "I swear right here and now I will kill you for everything you've done. My brothers, my sisters, my friends...YOU WILL PAY!!"

Erde punches his fists into the concrete and sharp rock spires shoot out of the ground around Madam Silverclaw. She quickly dodges many of them but one of them grazes her leg. Erde doesn't let up. He continues his rock spire assault. He is so blinded by rage that he doesn't see Madam Silverclaw dodge one of his rock spires and use it as a launch point to get close to him. He realizes it too late. Madam Silverclaw slams into Erde and knocks him flying into the wall.

Madam Silverclaw uses her arm whips to hold Erde up by his wrists. She turns to face me while holding him up. "So that was as much fight as they could put up? Pathetic." She studies Erde's defeated face. "Now this one is something, he actually managed to hurt me a little ."

Erde struggles to lift his head up and look at me. "Azula..." he says hoarsely "I-I'm sorry...I couldn't protect you..."

Madam Silverclaw pretends to be moved by what Erde says. "Aww isn't that sweet? He loved you until the end." Then without any warning she impales him with her claws.

"Erde no!!" I shout.

Madam Silverclaw drops him on the ground and flashes an evil smile. Then strangely enough she suddenly disappears.

I can't hold back my tears any longer. They spill down my face as I hang my head in defeat and shame. If I hadn't let myself get surprised by Madam Silverclaw's attack I wouldn't be in this wall and everyone I care about wouldn't be bleeding out slowly on the floor. I wouldn't be so helplessly watching them get killed right before my eyes. I was powerless to stop it.
