John
After the New Years' party, which was home to one of the most intense Twister matches of all time, I was getting ready to finish buying Alexander's birthday present.
"I'm sorry, but I don't want that as an option," I said to the phone. "No, I understand, but I need to confirm it by the 11th. It's a birthday present for my boyfriend. Yes, ma'am. I am gay. Yes. Really? Oh, wow, that's awesome! Wait, what kind of 'deal'? ...Holy— Oh my god, of course, I'd love to take a look at it! How about this afternoon? Great. I'll see you then!"

Alex's birthday finally arrived, and I couldn't be more excited.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BABY!" I squealed when I spotted him coming out of the bathroom that morning. He laughed in response as I hugged him.
"Thanks, honey," he said, then kissed my cheek. "How'd you sleep?"
"Good, you?"
"Amazing, actually," he replied. "Like a goddamn dog. What should we do today?"
"Baby, it's your birthday, not mine," I said, then ruffled his hair. He make a noise in protest. "What do you want to do?"
"Um... Coffee shop?"

The day had passed in a blur of flying colors. It was finally time for his big present. I had been saving up for it, and I had finally been able to buy one.
"Keep your eyes closed!" I squealed as we walked up the stairs of the building. "It's a surprise for a reason!"
"You're an ass," he said. I rolled my eyes and opened the door.
"You can look now."
He uncovered his eyes and almost immediately shrieked with joy.
A large, empty apartment sat before us, complete with hardwood floors, a complete kitchen, floor-to-ceiling windows looking out onto the street below, and a balcony attached to the back. It was only on the third floor, but I figured he would enjoy it as much as I did when I came to the open house.
"Holy shit!" he exclaimed, then turned to me. "You bought this?"
"Yep," I said proudly. "Do you like it?"
"Holy bloody mother of god, I love it!" he said, grinning. He kissed my cheek.
We spent the rest of the day moving our personal furniture into the house and setting up an inflatable mattress for us to sleep on. We then went and bought some paint for the walls for tomorrow, along with brushes and those little glow-in-the-dark stars that you put on your ceiling, just for fun. That night, once all of our stuff was set up and our bed was made, we stood out on the balcony and stared out at the sunset.
And, once again, I had the mentality to see how truly lucky I was.
I had no idea how soon that was all about to change.
(Thank you guys so much for being so kind about what's been happening lately. We recently went to our theater festival, and we got the chance to dedicate our performance to the two girls who passed away. I'm thinking about just keeping this to an 'I'll decide when I want to update' kind of mentality (similar to that of kmbell92 , who I HIGHLY recommend you check out) because updating has been taking a mental strain on me. I hope you enjoyed the chapter, and drive safe.)
