I was walking to my first class, English, when I ran straight into someone. We collided and fell to the floor in a mess of fluttering papers and a spilled coffee cup.
"Oh my God, I'm so sorry!" he said, apologizing profusely. "I didn't see where I was going and I didn't see you there--"
"You're okay," I said. "I should'e tried to get out of your way. You were going pretty fast."
"I'm gonna be late for my next class," he said hurriedly. "It's only the second week of advanced junior classes and I've already been late twice! They're gonna revoke my scholarship if I keep being late!"
"Hey," I said gently. "It's okay. We can go up to the main office and get you an excuse card, okay?"
He sighed. "Okay."
We walked to the office together, chatting and talking.
Once we had his excuse card, he bid me farewell and made his way to his class.
I couldn't help but wonder who exactly he was.
All I got was his name.
James H.
