"Nathan, promise me you'll be gentle." I look up at him with worry clouding my mind. This is the fifth time Nathan has had to miss a day at office because of Avery. Fifth time in the same month. That's enough to make him go mad.
"No, Ally. Not anymore, this boy is going off limits." He furiously rakes his hair as his eyebrows knit closer, shooting my worries sky high.
"He's just a child, he doesn't know what he's doing." I try to calm him down by cupping his face in between the palms of my hands.
"Stop covering for him every time, Ally. He's made this a habit, he knows every time he makes a mistake, you'll defend him and he can get away. But not today." Before I can ask him to calm down, three knocks on the door catch my attention.
"Mom?" Natalie's voice comes from the other side of the door.
"Yes sweetie?" I answer back.
"Mom, Avery's home. Just thought I'd tell you." Nathan bursts out of the room at that and I half run to keep up with him. He rushes down the stairs, his tie flying out of way while I manage to keep up with him.
"Avery Hale!" He calls out and it makes me shiver. I am not going to let Nathan touch him, not with this temper.
Both of us turn around to the sound of footsteps coming down the stairs, but its only our fifteen year old daughter, Natalie. Her twin brother isn't accompanying her, as he always does.
"Where's Avery?" I ask her. She pushes her glasses higher up her nose and shrugs her shoulders.
"You just said he's home." Nathan finds it difficult to keep his voice down.
"He was! Seems like he's run off again." Did I mention, she's got quite a sharp tongue for someone who's only fifteen.
"I am not fooling around here! Avery!" Nathan shouts again and Natalie gives me a long face. I gesture her to return to her room.
"Dad, he's honestly not coming that way. You need to calm down."
"Natalie," I speak out before Nathan has a chance to lash out at her too, "go to your room."
"Whatever." She rolls her eyes and heads upstairs.
"Tell the guards to not let him in until I say so." Nathan tells me and heads upstairs again.
God!

Its three in the afternoon. I sip on my green tea, while I perch in the kitchen chair, doing a quick heads-up on my emails. Suddenly, the walkie in the living room crackles with static, signaling the guards want to connect.
"Leah, get that please?" I call out to our housekeeper. A few moments pass and there's no response from her. Maybe she's busy with something. Putting my cup of tea on the table, I head to the living room and pick the device up.
"Yes?" I speak into it.
"Ma'am, Avery is here." The guard speaks and my eyes widen.
"Let him in." I order and quickly turn around to see whether anyone's heard that. Once seeing that no one is in sight, I walk to the main door of the house, and open it as I wait on the porch for my fifteen year old son to come. I can sight the guard opening the gate for him in the driveway, and within seconds, his Ferarri cruises in and into the garage.
I count till ten mentally, and that's finally when he shows up. His brown hair, all over the place, prove he's had the sunroof down for the entire drive and I can smell cigarette off him as he comes closer.
