He left angry. He's not supposed to leave angry. We made that a rule. He broke the rule. I sit on the floor and watch the elevator waiting for it to open again. But it doesn't.
I make myself get up and go in. I have to go to work. All research has been halted for the time being. Everyone must report in daily. I assume this is based on the assumption that the culprit won't show up.
I send Ming a message saying that I'm sorry. I wait for a reply but get nothing. I send another, then another, then another. My morning is spent sending him message after message begging for forgiveness.
I sit at my desk looking at where my computer used to be. I look at the empty vault then to the empty file folders. This is terrible. I have no idea how long it will take to recover from something like this.
"I don't understand why they took our research. What are they going to get from that? Is someone else going to take over and take credit?" One of the researchers asks.
"That's a good question. Exactly what kind of information can they get from our files and research? And why take our computers?" Another asks.
"Yeah why not just take that fucking whore's computer?" Someone spat out.
Looks like I'm not the only one who hates her now.
"OK everyone. Let's calm down. I've been told that each pair of researchers will be asked to go over their research and items on your computers. This is going to be a long process ladies and gentlemen so buckle-up." Pii says.
"When is this supposed to start?" Hiro asks.
"Next week. They say they'll have everything sorted by person by then. Expect this to be long and tedious. Also I would assume that they are going to treat us all like criminals until they decide that we're not." He says.
"You too?" I ask.
"Most definitely me too. I am in charge here, I'm sure they hold me responsible to some degree." He explains.
"Because you couldn't read the mind of a criminal? I see their point. Why aren't you omniscient?" I question.
He laughs and hits me lightly on the shoulder. He walks into his office and plays on his phone. Speaking of phones....I pull mine out and start messaging again. He has to respond eventually.
A call from Mon breaks my spamming concentration. And though I want to cuss him out right now I hold back and answer the phone.
"Mon. What can I do for you?" I ask.
"Yo, you said that one of your coworkers hasn't shown up for work right?" He whispers at me.
"Are you ok? Why are you whispering?" I ask.
"I'm fine! Just answer the question." He demands.
"Yes, that awful lady that's friends with the trio you're watching over." I tell him.
"Right well that trio is now a duo." He says.
"Sirikit didn't show up today." He says.
"But the other two did? How do they seem?" I ask.
"Confused they keep calling her saying that she had some kind of flu. They seem genuinely worried." He tells me.
"Maybe they realize they got left behind to take the blame. OK. Here's what I want you do, have them go check on her and have the fairies follow to see what they do." I order.
"Consider it done." He says.
I sit back and think about the situation. My nemesis stole our vials two days ago. She didn't show up yesterday or today for work. The leader of the crazy town is a known friend of nemesis did not show up for work today. Did they leave together? Maybe I should have Hiro look into her bank accounts.
