Chapter 4

Thea's POV

After introducing me to Stella Jones, Diana went to her class which I guess is Techno. Stella is just the opposite of Diana, where Diana is shy, Stella is outspoken. She has a long face with dark brown almost black eyes which goes well with her head strong personality from what I can see. She has a fair skin tone with long dirty blond hair which reaches her mid back.

After English, Diana met me outside the class and we went to Maths together. Classes went by quickly and soon it was Break. I along with Stella and Diana went to the cafeteria and got our food.

We found an empty table to sit and went there. I noticed that the people sitting in the centre of the cafeteria was laughing and talking loudly. I turned and asked, "Who are they?"

"They are the 'popular people'. They are mainly the jocks and the cheerleaders" Diana said, air-quoting popular people. I nodded in understanding.

"You should probably avoid Ashley Bennett and her minions, they practically rule this school, you get on their bad side, and they will make your life a living hell" Stella said, pointing her out.

"Yeah, I don't even want to get involved with these people."

The bell rang and we went our ways, I went to Techno with Stella and Diana went to her class. Techno is a pretty simple subject, well for me it was but apparently not to Stella, she was continuously complaining about it. Finally, the class is over and I went to my locker to keep my books and went to Music class alone. When I entered the music hall, I was in awe. The room was beautiful, there were all types of instrument on one side and on the other side were stools with microphones in front of them for singers. There were only a few people in this class, including Ashley. I went and sat on a vacant stool and the girl beside me turned and said, "Hi, I am Emma"

"Hey, I am Thea" I said. We talked about Music for a while; I came to know that Emma likes to play instruments more than singing. I also found out that Ashley is the best singer in this school and every year there is a inter school competition for seniors and the winner gets a big prize, which is different every year. I told Emma that I love to sing and play instruments too. She wanted me to sing something for her but the teacher entered the class.

"Hello class. My name is Mrs Wood and I am your music teacher. Now let's just see who can sing and who can play instruments in this class, those who can sing stay where you are and those who can play please move to the other side of the room, my husband Mr. Woods will be right with you."

Emma waved at me and walked to the other side, where the instruments are and I decided to stay this side only. The teacher turned to us and said, "Okay. Now I want every one of you to sing a song of your choice so that I can see what I'm working with, starting from the right. Let's begin"

As I was sitting on the left end, my turn would probably come at the end. Listening to others sing made me realise that they were all really good and Ashley, as expected was the best of them. Soon all of them were done and it was my turn.

"What's your name dear?" Ms Wood asked.

"Thea John"

"Okay. Which song are you going to sing?" she asked.

"Red by Taylor Swift. Can I use the guitar to play along with it?"

"You can play as well?" she asked, sounding intrigued.

I nodded. Then she said smiling brightly, "Sure. You can start whenever you're ready"

I went to Mr. Woods asked for a guitar. He told me to choose one from the stand, most of them were already being used; I choose a simple brown acoustic guitar and thanked him. I went back to my seat and started strumming the tune and began singing.

'Loving him is like drivin a new Maserati down a dead-end street

Faster than the wind, passionate as sin ending so suddenly

Loving him is like trying to change your mind

Once you're already flying through the free fall

Like the colours of autumn so bright just before they lose it all

Losing him is blue like I've never known

Missing him is dark grey all along

Forgetting him is like trying to know somebody you've never met

Loving him is red,

Loving him is red' I continued singing the whole song, completely lost in the tune.

'Loving him is like drivin a new Maserati down a dead-end street' I finished with the last note singing softly.

I looked up and saw that everyone was staring at me with shocked expressions, even Ashley. I cleared my throat, blushing having the attention and that seems to bring them back and they started clapping.

Soon after that everyone went to their work and Ms Wood approached me and said, "You have beautiful voice dear and you played beautifully too. I am very impressed."

"Thank you, Ma'am,"

She turned and went to a student who raised his hand for a question. The class continued, Ms Wood taught us about notes and all, which I already knew. When the class ended, I went back to my locker. Then Ashley came to me, smiling and said, "Hi I'm Ashley. You should totally hang out with me and my gang. Trust me you don't want to hang out with the 'wrong' crowd and be associated with losers."

"Thanks for the invite but I'll pass." I replied, not liking her a bit. Soon I saw the creepy smile of hers fade on being rejected and instead a scowl came of her face.

"Listen here you scholarship girl, just because you can sing, don't think that you are better than me. I am the best and don't try to come in my way or I'll make you regret coming here in the first place. Understood?"

"Excuse me. Who do you think you are? You might think you rule this school and everyone's under you but don't make a mistake in counting me as one of them. Got it?" I snapped back.

Ok I may not be like those rich show-offs but I do have a bit of a temper and I don't like her 'kind' of people anyway.

I turned and made my way to P.E. I looked over my shoulder and truly, she was standing there with her jaw dropped. Clearly nobody has ever told her off like that before.

'Well, serves her right' I thought.
