Today on the way home from school something strange thing happened. A teenager, around my age, maybe a little older, came up to me and said that he had seen "some kids pick on me". Then he asked if I was okay. This is strange for a number of reasons. First, I've never seen this student before, but we must be in the same grade. Second, he claimed that "kids had picked on me". I was tempted to ask what that meant, but then realized that he must have seen my friends talking to me, and, for some strange reason, must have been taught that "picking on" means talking to friends, or something like that. But...none of this explains why he asked if I was okay. Of course I'm okay! What's not to be okay about?
I explained to him that I was perfectly fine, and then asked why I'd never seen him before. His response was even stranger than anything he had said already: "I just moved here a couple days ago, this was my first day at school."
What was that supposed to mean? Just moved here? But...people don't move here. And people don't move out. Everything here is always exactly the same, this isn't supposed to happen. The boy seemed nice enough, so I asked him what his name was. He said it was Gerard, but to just call him Gee. This I liked, finally something about him was normal! He has a nickname!
I told him my name was Frank, but to call me Shortie. But then, he asked why he should call me Shortie, which confused me. He has a nickname, why does he not understand mine? I said that it's what my friends call me, and he replied that it wasn't very nice. It simply explains my height in a comical way, what's not nice about it? He said he'd call me Frankie, to which I responded,
"But that's even longer than Frank!""So is Shortie," he pointed out, "Besides, Frankie sounds cuter." I couldn't really argue with his first statement, Shortie is longer than Frank, but why does 'Frankie' have to be cuter? Before I could ask this, he said he had to go home, but that he would look for me at school. Then he left, just like that! I couldn't even say goodbye! It was rude, but maybe he was in such a rush that he didn't have time for a goodbye. But if that was the case, why would he have had time to stop and introduce himself to me? I doubt I'll be able to answer these on my own, so I'll ask him the next time I see him. I hope it's soon, I did really like who he seemed to be. Maybe we can be friends soon!
