Ch.14: Remembered

After what happened last night, Anthony and Ashley insisted that they wanted to rest. So, today, absent sila sa school (they don't know about the date for a cause thingy).

This afternoon, naglalakad lang sila sa private park sa subdivision nila, a habit na ginagawa nila when they are together and bored at home.

"Tara upo tayo dun sa may bench," Ashley suggested.

They sat in blissful silence, watching children playing and couples passing by.

Ashley leaned her head on Anthony's shoulder.

Well, hindi na bago ito sa kanila.

Skinship never meant anything more than friends especially kay Anthony.

Pero kung iba ng makakakita, they really looked like a couple--something that Ashley would always wish they are.

"Oh! Gusto mo ng candies?" Anthony pointed at a candy store.

"Yeah pero alam ko naman na mas gusto mo bumili ng ice cream," Ashley smiled at him. He chuckled. He stood up from the bench at umalis para bumili.

Ashley smiled remembering something.

Flashback...

"Anthony, tara punta tayo doon!" Ashley pointed at the candy store.

Mga bata sila noon at naglalaro sila sa park.

"Huwag. Dito na lang tayo!" he pointed at the ice cream stand.

"No! Let's go buy candies!" she argued.

"No! Ice cream!"

"Candies!"

"Ice cream!"

"No!"

"Yes!"

Anthony chuckled and ruffled her hair, giving up in their childish argument. Kahit noong mga bata pa sila, si Anthony na talaga ang mature at rational sa kanilang dalawa.

"Okay, bakit hindi ka na lang bumili sa candy store ng gusto mo tapos bibili ako ng ice cream na gusto ko. Tapos magkita ulit tayo sa bench na ito. We'll eat together," Anthony suggested.

Considering na tama ang kaibigan, she nodded.

"Okay."

Ashley started to walk towards the candy store. On the other hand, pumunta naman si Anthony sa ice cream stand.

"I want to buy that pink cotton candy, please," Ashley said to the candy vendor at the store.

"Gawin niyo na pong dalawa."

Tumalikod siya at nakita niya si Anthony na bumibili kasama niya.

"I thought you wanted that ice cream. Bakit cotton candy ang binibili mo?"

"You're my best friend because I like you. So, dapat magustuhan ko lang yung gusto mo. Besides, ayokong iwan ka mag-isa."

Ashley smiled at him. He's just too sweet.

He pinched Ashley's cheeks.

"Let's go and eat."

End of flashback...

"Ashley," tinawag siya ni Anthony.

"Are you okay? Hindi mo ako pinapansin," umupo si Anthony sa tabi niya.

"Sorry, may naalala lang ako," she smiled.

He nodded. Binigyan niya siya ng cotton candy and a bag of Jellybeans.

"Anth. Sabi ko sa'yo ice cream na lang ang bilhin mo. Bakit puro candy ang binili mo?"

Ngumiti si Anthony sa kanya.

"Sira! Hindi mo na ba naaalala? You're my best friend because I like you. Kaya dapat lang na magustuhan ko ang gusto mo. Besides, ayoko iwan kang mag-isa dito."

Ashley chuckled. She's touched.

Naalala rin pala niya....

Hindi pa rin siya nagbabago....

"Ash?"

"Hmm?"

Tiningnan siya ni Anthony. "Thanks for sticking with me last night. You're such a great friend."

"Friend? Uhh...oo, friend," Ashley mumbled, still looking at those children playing.

"Huh? May sinasabi ka?"

Ashley shook her head.

Sayang naman ang magandang moment nila. Makukuntento na lang muna siya sa ganito.

Ashley turned to him, smiling. "Wala yun. Friends should always stick together."

"Alam ko na! To pay you back, let's have dinner tomorrow pagkatapos ng klase," he suggested, excited.

"Talaga? Libre mo yan ah! Promise?"

"Promise. So meet me up at 6:30 pm sa favorite nating cafe."

Anthony smiled at her. She nodded her head and smiled back at him.

Ngayon, its Anthony's time to lean his head on her shoulder.

Ashley closed her eyes and lean her head on his in bliss.

Sana palagi na lang tayong ganito...

A song played in her head. It's a song that she heard days ago...

Our little conversations

Eventhough it hurts being just your friend, okay na sa akin 'yon. I'll take the risk and the pain if it means we can be together. Just let me continue to be by your side...
