Ch.29 : Partners in Crime (Part 1)

Jenny sighed for the nth time today. As usual, naghihintay siya sa isang cafe para sa isa na namang arranged date.

She sighed yet again.

Kung sino man ang lalaking iyon, ang kapal ng mukha niyang paghintayin ako ah.

Her thoughts stopped when the door chimes rang signalling na may pumasok sa cafe.

Jenny turned to look at him.

Sa wakas---

"Jenny!"

Jenny's disappointment was written all over her face.

"Why are you here, Charles?"

Charles sat beside her.

"I just wanted to check if that guy is safe."

Jenny rolled her eyes.

"Safe po siya, tatay. So, you must go."

"No. After what happened the last time. Kailangan makilala ko muna ang lalaking yun. And that's final."

"But---"

"After kong makilala ang date mo. Ako na ang mahahatid sa'yo pauwi to make sure you're safe. No protest. Period."

Jenny sighed.

Charles can really be overprotective sometimes.

"Why are you doing this, Charles?"

He just simply smiled at her.

"We're partners in crime, remember?"

He stood up and went to the counter to order.

Partners in crime.

That sentence repeated again and again in her mind.

And she started think how they became partners in the first place.

Many people say that Jenny is such a lucky girl ever since she was born. First off, she was born in one of the richest families in the country. Sabi nga nila, kahit hindi na siya magtrabaho paglaki niya, mabubuhay pa rin siya ng pera ng pamilya nila. And because of that, people thought that finally, a princess was born in the Madrigal family following their first born son, Justin.

But what people was really envious about is not her wealth. It was because Jenny was born with heavenly gorgeous looks. In short, mayaman na, maganda pa. In fact, marami na ang offer ng arrange marriage para sa kanya though she's just a baby.

Indeed, Jenny is really lucky. But it is just from the eyes of other people. Because in her family, she's nothing but "another mouth to feed". Hindi na siya kailangan kasi lalaki naman ang first born nila. Si Justin lang ang importante kasi siya naman ang magmamana ng business nila.

Despite all of that, lumaki si Jenny na masayahin. But soon, she changed when reality struck her. Struck her hard.

When Jenny started her schooling, many people are really fond of her. In fact, her teachers treated her like a princess. But her classmates we're a different case.

Being the friendly girl that she is, she tried to befriend everyone. Hindi naman mahirap yun dahil mabait siya at masayahin. Pero habang tumatagal napapansin niya na ang mga friends niya ay nag-iiba na.

Girls would loved her to be their "bestie" but soon, when their crushes and even boyfriends started to confess to her, they ditched her kahit alam naman nila na hindi niya gugustuhin mang-agaw. Boys started to befriend her but soon they turned out to be jerks who wanted nothing but to score at her. And her fansclub, yes she has a big one, started to bother her. At first, they're just a bunch of giggling fangirls and fanboys but soon they became unruly. They even hired paparazzis and even investigators to follow her every move.

And soon, her family started to realize ang tunay na use niya sa pamilya. They realized that when young heirs of her age started asking her out on a date. They even don't demand a relationship. They just wanted to go out with her, just for once. And in what expense? Their rich families would invest in the Madrigal Group of Companies. So, simula noon, the young Jenny started going to those so called arranged dates and started to make her effort to please other people. Her family just saw her as a pawn rather than their "princess" that everyone think of her.

So, when she graduated in middle school (a/n: yes, iba po ang curriculum nila ^^), she opted to transfer school. Hindi siya nag-aral sa Kent Grade and Middle School unlike those typical elite kids. Galing lang siya sa isang simpleng private school na masasabi mo namang pangmayaman pero hindi para sa level niya na Madrigal.

Ayaw kasi ng mga magulang niya na mag-aral siya sa Kent. They don't want Jenny to overshadow her brother. They don't want him to be compared to her. Magiging burden at distraction lang iyon sa kanilang tagapagmana na si Justin.

So, when her brother graduated in high school and she is in 2nd year high school, she transferred to Kent. Hindi para sundan ang yapak ng kuya niya or maging katulad ng iba pang elite sa society. She just wanted to have a peaceful new school life. At ang Kent ang nakita niyang magandang venue for her change.

It is now her time to get rid of her old self. She wanted to be a new Jenny. Away from the fans, away from the shadow of her family, away from the old chaotic jungle she called life.
