Chapter 15

Tristan’s POV

This was getting worst and worst.

It was the third night of healing and not only Rene kept vomiting black vomit, I was vomiting it too but not as bad as him. Leon had taken a week off from work to tend to us all. Saul occasionally had to go back to work for few hours and since the office was in the same building, he was quick to come back anytime.

Alec graciously helped us all in this strenuous time too. He had helped preparing meals and the laundry while working with his laptop. It sounded that he had some issues back home but he looked capable in solving them. Occasionally, when I was quite okay and was able to walk around I would accidentally found him on the phone with this person named Kade, who was his soul mate.

Leon rubbed my back slowly in circles as I let out what hopefully the last of my vomit. I was sitting on the floor with my face in the toilet. The black liquid had no smell whatsoever. And the food in my stomach was not vomited out together with it which I was grateful for. Everything seemed to so surreal.

I flinched when I heard the faraway sound of Rene vomiting his heart out. Tears gushed to my eyes as another wave of nauseous went up to my throat. I tried to force it down because I was too tired to do anything even move. I was already leaning against Leon who encouraged me to throw up whatever poison remaining in my system. I understood but I was just too weak. I had enough sleep but Rene didn’t sleep at all for the past three days. I got that Saul was supplying him energy but I was still worried.

All of a sudden, I felt something solid forming inside my stomach, trying to crawl up my throat.

“Leon!” I gasped, clawing my throat, trying to push it down. It felt alive as it moved inside my body. “Something—“ I coughed and this time blood came out.

I looked up and saw the horror in Leon’s face. He immediately shouted for both Saul and Rene to come. To my surprise, Rene was able to walk into the room but with Saul’s help, of course.

“Tristan, you have to let it out. Saul will kill it. It’s painful, but the curse is finally making itself known,” Rene urged, slumped next to me, running his fingers through my hair while wiping the blood on my lips with his sleeve. I whimpered in pain as he turned to Leon next. “You need to leave the bathroom, Leon. The curse can poison another person. Saul and I are okay but you have the tendency to catch it,” he advised.

I looked up to gaze into his emerald orbs and nodded my head. He nodded in return and kissed my forehead before leaving the bathroom, shutting the door behind him. I heard Alec coming in asking about what the shouting was about. I felt it was trying to scratch at my throat and I screamed in pain. Rene leaned in and put his lips to my ear. “This is going to be painful, but the curse needs to hear the healing chant. Can you be strong for me, Tristan?” he said. Tears was already gushing out of my eyes as I held on to his shoulders. I tried to speak but a sob came out. Saul knelt down and grabbed one of my hand in his large hand. “Be strong, Tristan. You’re special. You can do this,” he encouraged me.

I finally nodded my head as blood continued to slip through my lips.

“White rain, white sun, pure mind, pure soul, creatures run away from foul,” he whispered. I felt the curse wiggling its way through my throat, as if trying to escape from the chant. I moaned in pain as I gripped Rene’s shoulder with my fingers until I broke skin. I heard him hissed but ignored the wounds and continued chanting. I wanted to say sorry but a scream escaped from me as I threw up the final poison. I groaned in pain as I shut my eyes, willing it to end faster.

A sound of some blob-like thing went through my throat and passed my mouth, down my chin and hit the bathroom tile floor. I slumped forward against Rene’s arms as Saul immediately took charge. His hands glowed eerily in blue neon flames, much like how he first used it to defend the building. He quickly scooped the blob up and squeezed it in between his palms. Rene wrapped his arms around me, holding me still when the blob let out a spine chilling scream. Smoke was coming out from between Saul’s hands as his hazel eyes glowed in golden hue.
