The large old stone house towered over Renjun like a giant rain cloud. The constant frown on his face didn't change, even as he examined the beautiful house.
His father is a very successful business man, he got a job promotion that meant moving away form China to Korea. It's not that Renjun thought this place was ugly, he just wasn't very happy that his parents moved him away from all of his friends. His friends meant everything to him, it broke his heart to leave them behind. he tried telling his parents his but they simply shook their heads, claiming that with all the social media and internet it would feel like he never left them.
"Oh Renjun isn't it just beautiful!" His mother said cheerfully as she ran up the driveway to stand beside him, beaming up at the house.
"Beautiful" He confirmed, his voice holding no tone of excitement that his mother had.He wasn't angry at his parents, his father couldn't pass up the job offer, they were gaining so much more money from it. He would get use to living here, it would just take a while.
"Renjun!" His father yelled from the trunk of the car. He spun around slightly before walking back to the car to take his luggage. He moved back to where he previously stood only to be pushed forward a little.
"Here's the keys, why don't you go inside and pick a room" his mother says giving him a set of old looking keys. Everything about this place was outdated. She gave him a big smile and he returned a small one before making his way to the front door.
The door was made of solid brown oak and had very intricate carvings of wild flowers and plants. He couldn't deny how beautiful this place was.
The key slid in smoothly and turning with a small click sound.
He pushed it open, cringing at the creaking noise of the hinges, but gaping a little at the view in front of him.
There was a beautiful dark wooden Grand staircase that lead up to the second floor, with a deep red carpet that ran down the middle of the stairs.
Their house back in China was nice, but it was nothing compared to this.
He stepped inside, not bothering to close the door behind him since his parents were surely coming in soon. Dragging his suitcase and backpack behind him, he climbed the wooden stairs, cringing every time they creaked. It was not one of his favourite sounds yet he already knew he was going to be hearing it a lot in this place.
When he finally made it to the top, the corridor stretched out on either side of him. He thought for a moment before turning right and heading to the furthest door.
As he walked down the dark corridor he shivered at the sudden drop in temperature. He made a mental note to remind his parents that they needed to fit some heating at this side of the house, there was no way he was spending the rest of his time living here freezing to death every time he came upstairs.
Renjun slowly placed his hand on the brass doorknob only to yank it back with a small yelp. The metal was freezing, it felt like ice under Renjun's soft and warm hand.
He pulled his sweater sleeve over his hand before reaching for the doorknob again and turning it.
The door creaked open and he was suddenly hit with the smell of dust and age.
The room was large with a big wooden bed placed in centre, small tables either side held lamps with velvet shades.
On the other side of the bed was a huge window.
He threw the bags onto the bed and walked quickly over to the window. Miles of forest and greenery stretched out in front of him. The boy lets out a small breath and watched as the window fogged slightly under the heat. He takes note of the moth eaten curtains, another thing he would have to inform his parents of.
Suddenly, the door slams shut causing Renjun to quickly turn around. But there was nothing.
"There must be a draft, that would explain the temperature" he muttered to himself before walking over to the door and opening it again.
He noticed he was shivering and tugged on his sweater a little more. Although this room was freezing, he kinda loved it.

The shadow watched as the boy moved from the door to the window. Slowly he moved closer and watched as a shiver made its way up the boys back.
He had to get him out. He had to scare him enough that he would leave and never come back.
The shadow moved over to the wooden door and slammed it shut as hard as he could. The sudden noise caused the boy to jump and turn slightly.
"There must be a draft, that would explain the temperature" the boy mumbles as he opens the door once again.
If he couldn't scare this boy away, maybe he could drop the temperature so much that the boy has to leave to survive.
Slowly the figure moved closer, so close that his face and body was inches away from the boy. It could feel the boys heat radiating off him, and the unaware human could feel the shadows frosty touch.

Renjun skipped down the grand staircase to meet his parents who stood in the entrance.
"Do you need some help dad?" He asks as he reaches over to take a suitcase from his father.
"Oh thank you" he replies gratefully as he lets his son take the luggage. "Did you pick a room?"
Renjun nodded "I did but I think we should fit some more heating in this house, it's freezing at the end of the upstairs corridor" he explains, glancing back behind him and at the top of the staircase.
His parents looked at one another for a moment before looking back over at their son. "Renjun honey, there's plenty of heating in this house, we checked before buying, in fact the more isolated places in the house are the warmest" his mother says rubbing his shoulder slightly with a smile, before both of his parents move past him and further into the house, leaving Renjun stood in the entrance.
His parents obviously hadn't been in his room when they came to view the house. There's no way that is one of the warmest places in the house.
He turns and drags the suitcase behind him after carefully shutting the door. He placed the suitcase with the small pile of bags his parents had made in the living area.
"We should start unpacking, when we're done we can order some food" his mother says causing both him and his father to nod in approval.
"Renjun, these are yours" his mother passes him two large boxes which he balances on top of each other.
Carefully he turns and makes his way back to his new room.
