Chapter 29

Reyna Regrets

Leo POV

I was tackled by a shirtless Jason.

" Leo! Welcome back to the land of the living! " Jason had an ear to ear grin on his face and lipstick stains all over his face.

" Hey brick head. Care to explain why you're covered in lipstick? " He got off of me and lifted me. He frowned at his new nickname.

" I'm being chased by Aphrodite fan girls. " he dusted off his arms as they were now covered in dirt.

" Won't Piper be a little upset about that?" I asked.

" She's out shopping with Annabeth. Her sisters always do this when she's outside camp. "

" Ah. Well since your busy with them, do you know where Reyna is? I need to talk with her. "

" Really? Just now? " He fixed his golden hair and looked at me.

" What do you mean?"

He looked around making sure it was safe to talk to me without interruptions.

" Well Leo, you haven't really talked, let alone see, Reyna since we got back from fighting Gaea. Are you planning to break up with her? "

I sighed and scratched my head.

" Well-"

A large group of girls appeared out if nowhere.

" There he is! "

The Aphrodite girls were carrying lipstick, mirrors, and Drew had Jason's shirt.

" Get him! "

A chorus of giggles, squeaks, squeals, and faces of ear to ear grins started sprinting towards Jason and I.

Jason's eyes widened as he sprinted away. As he was running he shouted back to me.

" She's by the lake! " he screamed, running for his very life as his fan girls were chasing him.

" By the lake...I swear to gods if it's just like last time I'm going to throw a fit. "

As I walked to the lake, my mind flashed images of Reyna and I. Arguing, hugging, talking, and kissing.

I arrived at the lake and I could see Reyna sitting on the sand, lost in though as she stared forward into nothing.

She was wearing a purple summer dress and her straight Raven hair flowed down her back. Flowing as a breeze picked up and blew to her shoulder.

I walked over to her and say next to her. She saw me, but didn't say anything, she just kept her focus and thoughts to her self.

When she spoke, her words surprised me.

" Leo, do you have any regrets? "

I jumped a little and my eyes widened.

" Tons." I said. She turned over to look at me as I stared forward. " Not being able to save my mom, being almost useless in out fight with Gaea, making somebody slip through my fingers as memories of them still torture my mind... "

" Hmm...I suppose I've only one. " She replied.

I met her eyes and our gazes locked.

" What would that be? What do you regret Reyna? " I asked.

" Using somebody who might actually care about me..." Her eyes were watery when she broke our gaze.

" Oh. That somebody is me isn't it? "

She didn't say anything.

" Reyna, you can tell me the truth, I'll have no hard feelings what so ever. "

She brought her eyes back to mine as tears flowed down her cheeks.

" Leo...I'm so sorry...but...I don't think I like as much as I like Jason. "

As I thought about what she said, I expected the answer and stared at her. I saw so much in her eyes...pain, depression, loneliness. Enough to drive somebody insane.

" You don't need to apologize. I can understand. What I can't is how you've managed to stay sane. As lonely as you are...I'd expect you to have lost it. Anyone would lose their sanity if they were going through what you are. "

I wiped her tears with my thumb and she grabbed my hand with hers and kept it on her face.

" Leo, I just want somebody to care for me as much as I care for them. I want to love and be loved in return...but whenever I love somebody...they leave me. " Reyna kept a right grip on my hand as she sobbed.

Her words made me realize something as they repeated in my head. What Reyna is going through...is exactly what Calypso did before she met me. The two are so alike in so many ways. It's no wonder I had a crush on her in some point in time.

I brought Reyna in for a hug and she accepted happily. She sobbed on my shoulder and clung to me with a certain amount of sorrow and longing for something more. She wanted me to be somebody else.

" Reyna...I know I'm not Jason, but I can still be there for you when you need me to. After all, I lied to you as well, I'm already in love with the perfect girl and I need to get back to her. Someday you'll find the perfect guy for you. He'll reciprocate the feelings you have for him and you two will live a happy life. You just have to be patient. Aphrodite... uhhh I mean Venus, will praise you. "

Reyna squeezed me tightly once more and broke our hug after what felt like an eternity.

" Piper wasn't kidding...you really are perfect...I hope that whoever it is you love...loves you back. I hope you two can live happily. Thank you Leo...for everything. "

I wiped the rest of her tears and helped her up. When we stood I gave her one last hug and one of my " everything is okay and will be perfect later on " grins.

She returned it with her beautiful smile. For once, it wasn't fake and she wasn't hiding behind pain.

" Thanks Valdez. " she turned and walked away with her smile.

" Anytime Reyna. "

As the sun set and she disappeared from my view, I went to my bunker to install the brand new control disk into Festus.

When I had, his eyes lit up and I he clicked, whirred, and creaked furiously.

" Yeah, yeah I know. Sorry for not fixing you earlier buddy. "

He kept speaking his machine language as I brought him down from his chains.

" Don't worry Festus we can get back to Calypso right now. "

I hopped on his back and he ran flew out of Bunker 9. Ignoring the roof and sending wooden shingles everywhere.

" Festus! You flew straight through the roof! "

He ignored my comment and instantly hit Mach 1. As we sped towards Calypso's island, I couldn't help but worry. What if she hadn't remembered me like I remembered her?
