Chapter 28
Waiting Again.
Calypso POV
" Hello Calypso. It's been a while. " The flames in hair danced as he spoke.
" Forgive me, I had no intention of startling you. "
" You've no need to worry. I was just thinking is all." After I spoke he turned his head and began to stare out towards the ocean. The fire in his eyes becoming blue and the ones in his hair began to fizzle out. They must convey his emotions.
" If you don't mind my asking Lord Hephaestus, what brings you to Ogygia? " It took him a couple minutes to respond as he was still out of it when I had asked the question.
" I just came to check up on you. Zeus wanted to me to make sure you were still here. "
Never had I been so frustrated then at that moment. Zeus was toying with me and punishing me for something I did 3,000 years ago.
" That child! He knows I can't leave this cursed island! How in all of Tartarus did he become the god of all gods?!" My eyes watered and tears began to stream down my cheeks.
Hephaestus wiped my tears with his burly thumbs. Heating my cheeks at his touch.
" He's not doing it to insult you." He wiped the last tear from my face and looked me in the eyes.
" Oh? How can you prove that?" My voice rang with frustration as I spoke to Hephaestus.
" In light of recent...events. Zeus wanted to make sure that Ogygia's magic barriers were still in tact and working. " he avoided my gaze as the flames in his eyes and hair died. I could tell he was upset, almost sad about something.
" Lord Hephaestus...are you alright? "
" My dear I know it is not my place but, how have you been sleeping lately? "
Why he had asked me that confused me to no end, but considering Hephaestus was one of the gods that helped me, I figured I could return the favor.
" Quite miserably to be honest. I've lost track of the difficult time schedule on Ogygia and have difficulty completing my daily activities. "
He nodded his head, expecting an answer.
" Forgive me once more...what or should I say who have you been dreaming about? "
My head began to ache as the features of the boy I dreamed about clouded my mind. I don't remember what happened after that, only the world becoming black as my eyes slowly shut.
* the next day.
I was awakened by the smell of fire. I scrambled out of bed as I found a small flame engulfing my cave. I screamed when I saw it, but after I had it went out.
" Oh. Good. You've awakened. " Hephaestus handed me a glass of water as his skin was smoking due to how he had just become a human fire pit.
I drank the glass water and handed it to Hephaestus, which he set on the cave floor.
" How are you feeling Calypso? "
My head ached and I could feel my heart sinking.
" Awful...what happened yesterday or last night? " I asked.
" You fainted due to shock. Trying to remember so many things at once made your mind collapse. " Hephaestus explained as he handed me another glass of water. Which I drank.
" Are you in a state healthy enough to walk?" He asked.
" Yes, I can walk. " I replied.
" Perfect. Please, follow me. " He walked out of the cave and gestured with his hand to follow him. He walked out of the cave and I did as well.
He walked me past my garden to the opposite end of the beached island. We came across a small square building that had been built with mud-bricks.
Hephaestus walked to the open in front of the building where a door should have been. He gestured for me to go inside.
" After you Calypso. "
I walked inside the the small structure and found metal scraps all over the floor. A small table was in the center of the small room with blue paper rolled up on its center.
My head began to throb once more and Hephaestus began to speak.
" You really don't remember? " he asked.
" Remember...what? " I was having trouble speaking due to my massive headache.
" Not what. Who. " He walked to the center of the room and picked up a screwdriver. Which he tossed to me and I barely caught.
" Think Calypso. Remember him. Remember my son. "
My head began to relax as images flashed through my head. Brown eyes, a tool belt, a bunker, curly hair, a scrawny boy, and an impish grin that lifted the weight off of my heart.
" His name. Remember his name. Think Calypso. " he said.
I struggled as my mind did circles around itself and almost drive me insane trying to remember the boy's name. I looked at Hephaestus and he realized what I was trying to tell him.
" I suppose it can't be helped. "
A blue light flashed and Hephaestus was now holding a blue crystal sword. He pulled out a scabbard and sheathed it. He tossed it me by it's strap and as soon as I touched the scabbard, I fell to my knees. The things I had tried to remember now flashed through my mind. Perfectly clear. A name then flashed through my mind as tears flowed endlessly down my face. My voice shook as I had attempted to speak. My tears were full of sorrow and complete happiness.
" L...Leo..."
