Chapter 26

Marc

What have I done? The angry question pounded in my brain as Dakoda slumped to the ground, going deathly pale. I knew what the consequences to drinking wolf blood would bring, but I really didn't care as long as Dakoda got better. I never even thought to tell her the whole thing. I never thought to tell her what would happen because she drank werewolf blood. I didn't tell her it only worked with mates. It never crossed my mind that Dakoda might hate me for what I had done to her.

She'll forgive us, my wolf reassured, whining in my head.

'She'll hate us.'

Don't let Saxon poison your thoughts.

'But we-'

Did what we thought was best.

My whole body was frozen as Saxon reached forward and picked up Dakoda.

Are you going to let him touch our mate?

'We don't deserve to.' I told him miserably.

Marc!

'What if she does hate us?'
She won't.

'She might.'

She won't.

'It's possible.'

No it's not.

'Just wait and see.'

"Put her in my room, please." Saxon raised an eyebrow at me, but he wrapped his arms tighter around my mate and headed for the stairs. I followed, feeling numb, as Saxon practically ran up the steps to my room, hardly jostling Dakoda in his arms. I watched as he gently laid her down on the bed, frowning, and he tucked a blanket around her. Already her forehead was beaded with sweat as her body tried to get rid of the new blood in her system. My blood was already at work inside of her bloodstream, trying to change her.

"How much blood?" Saxon asked me, a distant look in his eyes when he looked towards me. Shrugging my shoulders, I looked back to the shaking form of Dakoda.

"Enough, but not enough to work immediately." I murmured, feeling my shoulders sag. If I had done this, why couldn’t I have given her enough to make the change go quicker?

"What is her dad going to think when she doesn't come home tonight?" Saxon was still looking at me with accusing gray orbs. My fists clenched, trembling at the words.

"It doesn't matter, she's not going back." Growling, the words the left my throat with so much venom I was surprised when acid didn't spray from my lips.

"Marc." Saxon protested. "That's not your decision."

"The hell it is!" I yelled at him. "She can be mad at me as long as she feels, but she is not going back to the man the abuses her!" Saxon blinked, recoiling in shock. It didn't matter how mad he was at me, we were raised to be Alpha and Beta, and so he naturally shed away from my anger.
