Chapter 11

Marc

I hated how badly I wanted to help her, but every time I saw her hurt, she ran away. Why was she so afraid of me seeing her pain? Why wouldn't she tell me what was wrong? Why didn't I go after her? Why did I always seem to mess things up?

Why are you so stupid?

'Shut up.'

Oh, you got me. Amazing comeback. I could never top that. My wolf replied drily, baring his teeth inside my head.

I turned away from where she had fled with a pang of longing in my heart. No matter how much the urge to go after her ran through my mind, it might only make things worse. It could make everything worse.  It would ruin everything I was trying to accomplish. Now I had to do something I'd never had to do before.

Ask advice.

I hated how much I needed it. Shoving my hands into my pockets, while stalking moodily back to the other side of the street, my brow furrowed into a frown. How was I supposed to know what to say to her? How was I supposed to help her? What was I supposed to even do?

'This girl is completely ruining me.'

Not entirely.

'My whole chick magnet thing? I have no idea how I'm supposed to 'attract' her.'

Don't look at me. I'm just an innocent wolf.

'Pfft. As if such a thing exists.'

You aren't so clean either, boy.

'Never said I was.'

Saxon rolled on his skateboard to meet me at the corner, a lopsided grin and mischievous look on his face.

"How'd things go with Dakoda?" He asked, wiggling his eyebrows. Damn. Forgot how fast pack news traveled. Now I'm sure everyone knew about my mate and they'd all be looking out for Dakoda now.  I shrugged, sighing aloud not sure what else to say. "Man. That bad, huh?" Saxon asked, stepping off his board to walk behind me. I shook my head.

"Things went great actually…till we got to the corner. She had some cuts on her face and when I noticed…she left." I ripped my fingers through my hair peevishly, feeling myself scowl. "Ineedhelp." I mumbled.  Saxon tripped behind me, an astonished look on his face.

            "What?" He spluttered, eyes wide.

"I need help!" I shouted. He grinned, a joking glint in his eyes.

"I know, just wanted to hear you say it again." He smirked and I punched his shoulder. He ducked away, chuckling to himself while I glared daggers.

Your friend annoys me.

'You’re the one who wanted me to say 'hi' the first day I met him.' I muttered pointedly.

I know. Doesn't mean he annoys me any less.

"I'm serious. I don't know how to, well, ya' know, impress her. We talked fine, but man, I don't know how to really catch her attention. What do girls even like?" I wondered, leaning against the tree I had broken my foot on. Saxon shrugged, looking lost.

"Dude, you're the one who always gets the girls." He gave me a helpless look. "I know how to kiss 'em, and that's as far as my knowledge goes."

Pups got a point.

"I know how to flirt with a girl. I know how to sweet-talk girls. Hell, I can get almost any girl to make out with me. But Dakoda isn't any girl. I need to actually impress this girl." The words were practically killing me to speak.
