~ HERE IT IS! THE MOMENT YOU'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR... THE FIGHT SCENE BETWEEN MARC AND HIS DAD!!! :D
Chapter 38
Dakoda
My eyes seemed glued to Marc as he pounced, muscles rippling as he shifted effortlessly into a gray wolf, the color of storm clouds. He landed on the alpha of whom had also Shifted, snarling viciously as Marc landed square on his shoulders, teeth buried in the alpha’s furry scruff. Everyone backed up, giving the fighting pair room. Snarls, loud and unreal echoed around the trees, floating into the air with their savage notes. The alpha flung Marc off his shoulder, and he went soaring in the air with a whistling noise, hitting a nearby tree with a loud thump. My hands curled into fists, trembling worse than they ever had before. The urge to help, to attack the wolf trying to harm Marc was boiling underneath my skin.
Cayden’s hands on my shoulder were the only things holding me back from the intense urge to shift. Without him keeping me still, I would already be in the fray, but that couldn’t happen. This fight was between Marc and his father. Getting in the middle of their on-going quarrel would only make things worse. That’s something I couldn’t allow.
I cannot watch this. Luna whimpered in agitation, ears going flat, tail drooping low. Neither could I, but somehow, my gaze never wavered from the fighting wolves. It was as if everyone, including me, was Enthralled, unable to look away from the wolves. It seemed impossible to tear my gaze away.
The alpha stalked over to Marc, who was standing up, shaking his head as if to get rid of a daze. When the alpha pounced at him with another horrible, nightmarish snarl, Marc leapt away, not even a second too soon, as the alpha landed where he had been moments before, slightly bumping the tree, and pivoting while simultaneously snapping at Marc’s body.
The alpha’s wolf was a disgusting creature. His dull, unkempt fur was the color of burnt charcoal, with a twisted muzzle that frothed at the mouth, as if he held rabies. The teeth were crude and razors inside his mouth, while his feet held an unsteady gait. It was strange, sad even, as lurched around. Even so, uneven steps or not, he was a big wolf. He was definitely not a stranger to muscle, and his aim was almost too perfect.
Marc had the advantage of agility, as he spun away from the alpha’s leaps, snapping at the larger wolf’s paws, legs, flanks; anything to weaken his opponent. The alpha himself was doing a good job at getting Marc wounded to. He was already bleeding from his flank, heavily. If he lost too much more blood...
No, I wasn’t going to think that way.
It’s amazing, how long you can sit there, staring, watching fighting wolves dance around the clearing, exchanging snaps, bites, and snarls. The Alpha yelped when Marc crunched his jaw down on the wolf’s foreleg, tearing away the muscle and sinew.
Quicker than I had ever seen anyone move before, the alpha was on Marc, his jaws biting down on the side of Marc’s neck. Marc yelped in pain, which shot towards me from where I was standing.
No!
“No! Marc!” I screamed, jumping forward to help him. Within a millisecond arms wrapped around my waist, restraining me from rushing to his aid. “No! Let me go!” I screamed, beating my captor’s arms with rapid fists.
“Dakoda stop! You can’t help him!” Cayden hissed into my ear.
“No! Marc!” Tears poured down my face as Marc was released from the alpha’s grasp, slumping to the ground as blood pooled in a puddle beside him, running down his fur in small rivers of scarlet. Marc shook his head, dazed, as the alpha let a howl through blood stained lips. Heads of the pack around me bowed, but not before giving me a sympathetic glance.
“Marc! Marc, don’t’ give up!” I screamed, kicking and pounding my fists when his eyes grew unfocused, and he made no move to get up. Another pair of hands was holding me back now, adding to my restraints. With a snarl, the Alpha turned to me, his head snaking over the ground as he watched me through narrowed eyes. “Don’t let this bastard win! Marc! Get up!” It felt as if something was tearing my heart out, tearing it into a thousand pieces, and stomping it into the ground with spiked shoes. The Alpha let out a growl, stalking towards me.
“Oh, so you’re the big-bad wolf now?” I yelled at the Alpha. “You think you’re so high and mighty because you’re a fascist bastard who killed both his sons? You may think that makes you some great, all powerful werewolf, but it doesn’t! It makes you a coward! You can’t make it in the real world, so you have to tear down everyone around you!” I spat at the wolf, who cocked his head to the side, eyes murderous slits.
“Go burn in hell!” I screamed at the Alpha.
My Alpha.
He let out a loud, vicious snarl, snapping his gaping, salivating maw at me, just as he leapt in my direction. The vices around me tensed, and my eyes widened, gasps of shock echoing around me. All there was, was me, the wolf, and those cold eyes that stared at me.
Without warning, a gray blur streaked in the air, colliding with the alpha’s body. Sharp teeth pierced the alpha’s neck, as Marc tore out his father’s throat. The dull light in the alpha’s cold eyes disappeared in the exact moment that he hit the ground. Marc’s wolf stood, panting over the dead remains. A long moan rose up as Sammy’s wolf began to feel the effects of her mate’s death. Marc looked to me with glazed over eyes, taking a few shaky steps in my direction, blood still flowing freely from his neck wound. The arms around me unlocked as I stumbled forward. He shifted back into a human, covered in scratches, dirt and blood, scarlet streaming from the bite on his neck.
“Marc?” I gasped out as his eyes rolled back into his head.
The only response I got was the sound his body made as it hit the ground.
