Chapter 28
Marc
I felt her screams before I heard them. Saxon and I had been in the kitchen, each drinking a cup of coffee, neither speaking. Cayden was in the living room, sitting on the bottom of the steps with his head leaning against the wall. He had fallen asleep a few hours ago. Tammy was on the couch, watching Disney Channel. Trace was sitting at the table on the computer, sending out notices and what-not for whatever to the pack members. That's around the point in time pain tore through me, causing my fists to clench so hard the mug I was holding shattered. After that came the screams.
"Dakoda." I whispered. The next thing I knew, I was running towards the steps. Cayden had shot straight up from where he had been sleeping. Pushing past him, with Saxon, Cayden, and Liza on my heels, I pounded up the stairs. Flinging open my bedroom door, I instantly noted Dakoda convulsing on my bed. Screams were tearing out of her throat, her eyes were open, but all I could see were the whites. She was bending abnormally, her elbows were backwards. Her joints were making sickening pops.
"Get the binds!" Cayden yelled over the screaming.
"Getting!" I heard Liza shout.
"Try and hold her down!" Saxon cried, and I darted over to her, not sure what to do.
"I don't want to hurt her!" I yelled at Cayden and Saxon, who looked as helpless as I felt. So that hadn't been the best suggestion.
Do something!
'I don't know what!'
Dakoda was screaming still, her bones were cracking, her face was morphing. I could only watch in horror, pity, and pain as she began her first Shift.
'We did this to her.' I whimpered in my head.
My wolf, for once, had no response.
Dakoda's hands were turning into claws. Her face was growing longer, a pointed muzzle beginning to form. Her back arched, while her legs shrunk and warped their shape. Her eyes were narrowing, her hair shrinking, uncovering two new ears. Silver fur rippled on her pale skin. Arms re-bent. Tail sprouted.
She's beautiful, my wolf thought in awe.
A pure, sleek coated silver wolf lay where Dakoda had a few moments before, whimpering pitifully. One of her ear tips were jet black. Her front right paw was black as well. The wolf tried to stand on unsteady legs, shaking her head pale head. The tail was sleek and long-furred.
"Liza!" Cayden shouted, causing the wolf to flinch. Dakoda snarled, ears flattening, while starting to bristle. "Now would be nice!" He yelled, looking ready to panic as Dakoda bared her teeth, bleary eyes trying to focus. Liza ran into the room, throwing one strap to him and Saxon on the right side of my bed, and one to me on the left side of my bed. Cayden grabbed one end of the strap, before tossing it over the shaky wolf towards me. I held it, pulling it taught over her shoulders. She looked puzzled and began to whine when we held each end down over her in an attempt to try and hold her in place as Saxon and Liza tied her back paws to the bed frame by tying one end of the binds to her paws, and the other end to the bed frame. Dakoda let out a low keening noise.
