Chapter 9

Marc

I felt her pain fiercely this time and I froze, my eyes looking towards Saxon as pricks of pain started in my head, my arms, my shoulder went numb for a minute. What was happening to her? Saxon met my gaze, a look of confusion on his face, when all I felt was my horror and possessiveness. A strange overwhelming feeling was coming over me. The need to protect my mate. Someone was hurting what was mine.

Marc, she's hurting. My wolf whined, agitated that I had made no move to go to her.

'We should go.'

Now, my wolf agreed without pause.

I stood, striding towards the door. Saxon watched me, his gray eyes wary.

"Dude, where are you going?" He asked, standing up as well. I heard his feet whisper on the ground as he quickly caught up with me.

"Dakoda's in pain again." I growled. "I'm going to see if she's okay." Saxon grabbed my shoulder.

"Wait." He said. I spun around with a growl rumbling in my chest. He did not tell me what to do. He couldn't stop me. Saxon was not my leader.

Ignore the runt. Let's go.

"What?" I snarled, my eyes flicking towards the door. Saxon noticed my movement and he sighed shaking his head.

"She human Marc. Don't you think it might be weird if you just-"

"I don't care!" I shouted, ripping his hand off my shoulder.

Good boy, let's go.

I obeyed my wolf quickly heading back to the door. Saxon grabbed my arm, and I snarled, pushing him across the room. He hit the wall and snarled, baring his own sharp fangs. My blood was boiling and for a moment I wanted to shift. He did not tell me what to do.

Dakoda… Her name made me stop for a second, giving me a brief hesitation, and Saxon leapt, pinning me to the floor. I punched his jaw, rolling away from him and kicking him backwards. He let out a growl.

"Marc stop being stupid. Maybe it's nothing." He tried to persuade me.

"You wouldn't understand!" I snarled, crouching.

"She wouldn't understand! Don't you think she'd freak out if she knew you could listen to her talking to Piper from a block away, you could feel her pain, and you were a werewolf? Dude, it's the facts and she's human."

We could explain it.

'Exactly, then she would have to understand.'

"So what?" I asked with a challenge.

"So, don't push your luck. She may be hurting now, but she might be perfectly fine in an hour." He snarled. Some part of me knew that made sense, the human part. But right now my wolf part was pretty much going into a frenzy, slamming against the cage in my head.

Our mate is hurting.

Those are the only words it took for me to leap up towards the door. I heard Saxon scramble to his feet, ready to tackle me to the ground, but I was faster. I reached the door, turning the knob frantically as I swung it opened. I froze in shock, all thoughts of Dakoda fleeting from my mind, and Saxon skidded to a halt beside me. A man stood there, his cold gray-green eyes glinting in malice. His expression was stony, and his nostrils flared as he took in my appearance. He was wearing a t-shirt that showed his muscles which had the wolf part of me cringing in obedience. His brown hair was buzzed close to his tanned skin, and even I could see that he wore his canines plainly, which most werewolves didn't do. My mother was under his arm, pressed to his side the way a football player would hold the football as they ran in for a touchdown. She looked guilty almost, as she was there by his side. But even I saw the security and peace she felt being near him, due to her wolf feeling lonely without him at her side.
