It had only been Tom's third day in the underworld and seems as if chaos is already rising.
Apparently there had been other "dead" people here and now it was like Tom was living in a busy city full of immortals... which he was.
Everyone was running around like chicken with it's head cut off and Tom couldn't seem to figure out why.
Just then, a tall blonde came running over to him, or at least, she was tall to him... She seemed about as scared as anyone else, but at least she was actually able to talk and not scream her lungs out.
"You need to hide!" She exclaimed, trying to calm herself down a little.
"Why?! What's going on?!" Tom asked worriedly, his accent sounding a bit shaky from fear.
"The infected! They're coming and they're dangerous!" The girl squeaked.
"Wait wha-"
Tom was interrupted as the girl took his hand and dragged him into the darkness of a cave. The girl slid a gigantic rock in front of their hiding place so no one else could enter. She picked up a stick from the ground, pulling some matches from her pocket and lighting the stick so they could both see.
"I know you're new to this place, and you don't know me at all, but it's extremely dangerous out there, and if you have any intentions on getting out of here soon, then you need to listen to me and stay out of sight," The girl warned.
"What's your name?" Tom murmured.
"Christina," The girl replied, "and you?"
"It's Tom, short for Thomas," Tom said.
"Okay, Tom, listen to me, some of the undead out there have been infected by a virus that's going around the entire city. It turns you into a demon or a witch, depending on what infected you. If an infected person bites you in any place, you'll turn into one of them and won't be able to go back to earth where you came from, where we came from," Christina explained.
"So... it's like an apocalypse of demons?" Tom questioned, trying to sound as serious as possible.
Christina sighed, "yes, Tom."
"Well, how are we gonna protect ourselves?" Tom continued to ask.
"I have weapons back at my den, we could sneak back there and get them so we can defend ourselves if needed," Christina answered, rising from the ground while Tom did the same.
Tom was scared, more scared than ever. His palms grew sweaty and his guts twisted in knots. Part of him wanted to just stay in the cave and hide but another part of him just wanted to go home. He knew Zendaya probably wasn't very happy with him right now, especially since it was his fault he was even in this situation, but he still missed her... a lot.
Tom's thoughts were interrupted by Christina snapping in his face and calling his name, "Earth to Tom... what were you thinking about?"
Tom grew embarrassed and looked down at the ground, gliding a rock under the heel of his shoe, "nothing, I just miss someone."
"Who?"
"My girlfriend..."
"It'll be okay, I'm sure you'll see her when this is all over," Christina attempted to comfort him, wrapping her arm around him for a second then went over to remove the rock from the cave entrance.
She pulled the heavy rock back, letting it roll to the back of the cave as Tom stepped out of it's path. She stepped out into the open with Tom behind her, looking around to make sure the coast was clear.
"C'mon," Christina mumbled before dashing along the shadowed cave wall. Tom slowly shortly behind, keeping an eye out for these... creatures.
The city had grew quiet, too quiet. It seemed like everyone had disappeared into the dark corners and caves of the city, away from the infected, at least, that's what Tom thought until now.
Both him and Christina began to hear growling, slurping, scratching, and screeching. The both stopped at a corner, Christina peaking around it.
Tom peaked around Christina a little, trying not to attract whatever was around the corner but still making an effort to see what it was.
They both were able to see a disturbing figure. It's back was turned to them, and it couldn't see or hear them. It seemed to be feasting on the collar bone of another undead, slowly turning them into whatever it was.
Christina pulled back, pulling Tom with her as well and looking at him, a bit worried, "it's an infected one."
A burning feeling rushed through Tom's body. As of now, he wanted to dart away and hide in the darkness again, but he knew he had to fight his fears and defeat whatever this... thing was.
"On the count of three, we'll run as fast as we can, no turning back, no stopping," Christina whispered, grasping Tom's moist hand and holding it tight. Tom nodded, letting Christina know he agreed with the plan.
"One."
Tom bit down on his lip nervously.
"Two."
He clenched Christina's hand tightly.
"Three."
They both took off past the creature, immediately alarming it and causing it to look up from it's meal. It began to chase after the two of them, dashing on it's hands and knees. As badly as Tom wanted to look back, he wouldn't, he couldn't.
It screeched loudly and galloped faster, sending chills down their spine. Soon they began to approach the entrance to a cave. It was decorated with pink and white cloth with two torches at both sides of the entrance. There was a door door built onto one side of it, made out of dark wood plants held together by a tough rope.
Quickly, they both slipped inside, slamming the door and scooting away from it. Tom hid behind Christina as the door began to rattle and indescribable noises could be heard from the other side.
Whatever creature this was, it's growling was able to be heard as "let me in" and it began to chant it until finally, it gave up and it got silent.
