Melanie happily wandered the empty streets, humming softly to herself as her dress flowed smoothly in the wind. The streets weren't usually this empty but it seemed as if today everything was off to Melanie.
She had just got done having a party and she was on her way to the store to get a small amount of groceries. It wasn't exactly a party, as she was the only one there and all the invitations she had sent out were ignored. Even her boyfriend, Johnny, made no effort to show and still hasn't called her or anything to let her know he was okay.
She tried not to think about it but every little thing seemed to remind her of him.
Her thoughts were interrupted as an ice cream truck drove along the side of the street, close to the sidewalk Melanie was walking on. The music played slowly and creepily and the wheels squeaked loudly. The driver wore a white wolf mask and a stripped shirt with what looked like dirt stains all over.
Melanie tried walking faster, but that only caused the truck to speed up as well. Melanie then darted off in an instant, disappearing into an alley way. The man slowed down and stared down the alley way, but drove off when he couldn't find Melanie.
Melanie peeked out from her hiding spot, then ran the opposite way until she was out of the alley way.
She looked around, making sure it was safe to keep walking. The alley way was practically a short cut to the store, so by now she could see the store from across the street.
She sped to across the street, quickly entering the store. The store was completely empty except for the cashier who was standing behind the cash register and staring towards the back of the room motionless. Her eyes were pitch black and her lips and face were extremely pale.
"Welcome to the Corner Market." She says, still staring at the back of the room and not blinking at all.
Melanie just shrugged it off, grabbing a shopping basket and beginning to wander around the store.
She strolled through the isles, picking up whatever she needed at the moment.
She grabs a few boxes of cereal, candy, and fruit. Once she was done, she walked over to the cash register, sitting her basket on the counter.
The cashier looked at her, then down at the basket and began taking the items oit, scanning them and putting them in a brown paper bag and giving it to Melanie.
The whole time, she kept her eyes dead on Melanie. She kept her head tilted at an odd angle and a creepy grin on her face. Melanie caught on to her stare, looking up from the bag and looking into her eyes.
"Uh, thank you. Can I have my receipt?" Melanie asks nerously, but politely. The cashier nods.
As she reached for the receipt, Melanie noticed her name tag was blank. She had got the receipt and handed it to Melanie, but the curiosity was too much for Melanie to just leave without an explanation
"Hey um, if you don't mind me asking, what is your name?" Melanie asks curiously.
"Everyone calls me Fantasy," The cashier speaks in a deep but soft tone, finally blinking a few times and widening her smile at Melanie.
"Why?" Melanie asks again.
"Because I don't seem "real" or human... at least, that's what everyone else says," Fantasy answers.
"Oh, that's interesting." Melanie says. Fantasy nods.
"Well, I have to go, but hopefully I'll see you again soon," Melanie chripped, then turned around, but Fantasy tapped her shoulder and caused Melanie to turn back around.
"Take this." Fantasy demanded, holding out a small glass bottle will dark blue liquid inside that was filled to the brim.
"Why? What is it?" Melanie inquired.
Fantasy gets that creepy look on her face again, her grin going away and her face turning slightly more pale, "His mother said to pick the very best girl, and you are."
At that, Fantasy motions slowly towards the door, "Now go."
Melanie, confused and scared, slowly turns around and heads towards the door, taking quick glances back at Fantasy, then finally leaving.
Outside awaited an ice cream truck. The same ice cream truck that was following her.
The man in the wolf mask got out of the driver's seat, walking to the back and looking at Melanie through the big window.
He had two ice cream cones in his hand; one purple and the other pastel pink.
He showed them both to Melanie, gesturing with both of his arms for her to choose one.
Melanie thought for a second, then eagerly pointed at the purple one. He nodded, then gave her the purple one.
Melanie pulled a dollar from the pocket of her dress and tried to hand it to the man, but he shook his head and gestured for her to keep it.
"Oh, how sweet of you, thanks," Melanie said perkily, then walked away from the truck slowly, taking a big lick out of her ice cream.
The coldness of the ice cream filled her mouth. The ice cream tasted and felt weird as it glided across Melanie's tongue. She stopped and sucked the taste from her tongue, beginning to blink very slowly.
Everything around her became a blur, and it felt as if her hearing had been replaced by loud ringing.
Finally, she blacked out, falling to the cement. Her groceries fell out of the bag and scattered everywhere.
The man then sneakily got out of his truck, quickly walking to Melanie and picking up her unconscious body, bringing her back to the truck and putting her in the very back.
The man then went back to the driver's seat, sitting down and beginning to drive again, creepy music sounding from the truck as it slowly made its way down the street.
