Mila woke up early the next day. She thought she would surprise Jace with some delicious breakfast since he was so sweet to keep her company through that rough day.

She walks to the kitchen and starts mixing the ingredients. She hums one of her favourite songs, the one her grandma used to sing to her both when she was little, but also when she was in her early teens.

Mila remembers that her grandmom always sang it when she was happy. Now it is Mila's favourite song to sing when she has survived another day without her.

Her grandma is back home in Florida. They had to leave her there, that night.

She was the one who was there throughout all the bumps Mila and Nick went through, mainly the troubles with Robert and Chelsea.

Her parents have been going through some bumpy patches over the years. Sometimes Robert was away for a week or two, but he always came back to Chelsea. Their rocky marriage was too much for Mila to handle. It was one of the reasons she started seeing Peter; to get some attention.

Their grandma was also the one to always counsel and comfort, especially Mila when she was at her lowest. Her grandma even knew some things that Mila never told her parents.

She continues humming the tone while flipping the pancake she currently is making.

Jace walks into the kitchen and immediately notice the beautiful girl before him. He remembers the song she hums, and a sad smile appears on his lips, It's a song he has heard Mila hum many times, along with her grandma.

He feels sad for her. For the things, she has been through.

Jace slowly makes his way over to her.

On his way, he turns on the radio.

The tone Mila hums is too overwhelming for him.

"Morning," He says as he comes up to her. He places his hands on her hips and grants her a hug.

She mumbles out a weak morning back, a little annoyed that he turned on the radio because he couldn't bear the memories.

"It smells good," Jace says, looking over her shoulder and down to the golden pancake.

"Thank you." Mila answers.

Jace knows that she isn't just thanking him for the compliment, but for being there for her when she needed someone.

The silence stretches out between them, and the only sound surrounding them is the latest pop song playing on the radio.

"And now to the 12 o'clock news. The latest update from the Horson situation. The tragic day at the police station from 3 months ago has finally been closed. Jeremy Horson and peter Horson are going to be transported to Florida later today. The police have just released what they did back in Florida, and why they have been requested to be sentenced in court for the crime there. Two years ago Peter Horson..."

Jace turns off the radio before the news lady can elaborate on what happened that night.

The pancake Mila was flipping has been forgotten as she stares at the radio, comprehending the information it just provided.

"Aren't you happy? Peter is getting sentenced for what he did." Jace says to the frozen girl before him.

She breaks out of her trance and plants the now burned pancake into the trash can. "It just sounds unrealistic," Mila admits with a shrug. "I thought it was a closed case, and that the fire people had said it was an accident."

Mila takes the two plates of pancakes and begins cutting out some berries.

Especially strawberries, since it's Jace's favourites.

"You forget one thing." He starts. "I was there the next day, and told them about Peter and the threats."

Mila stops cutting the last piece and looks up at her ex. "You did?"

She never knew that he came to their house the next day.

It makes sense to her, but she has never thought that much of what he must have gone through that day. Especially, when they informed him about the unidentified body.

"Of course I did. I was so worried that something had happened to you when you didn't answer my texts. My thoughts were all over the place. First I thought you were getting tired of me or something. But then the next morning, I started thinking, and I remembered all the threating texts you showed me from Peter. That was when I hurried over to your house and saw what was left; Police- and firemen were scattered all around, along with some of your neighbours. The sight was terrifying, and when I got close enough, I heard they had found a body. I was so terrified that I didn't know what I was doing. I walked over the trespass and ran over to the burned body they had just pulled out from the remains. The policemen caught me before I got too far, but when I saw who it was, that was dead, I knew who did it, and I knew why you had left without any notice."

Jace takes a deep breath, trying to control the memory and the feelings there's behind them. While Mila lets go of the tears already.

She walks over to him. She sets the freshly made pancakes in front of him and sits down on the other side. She has never heard this side of the story before, so she urges him to continue.

"I told the police about your situation with Peter, along with all the threats. They reported it and told me that they would keep in touch with further information while keeping me informed. Peter then visited me when I got back home, demanding that I would tell him where you ran off too. The same day the police called me and said that neither Peter nor Jeremy was in the area. They promised me though that they would keep looking."

He takes a strawberry in his mouth and smiles over at Mila. "You remembered?" He asks, referring to the strawberries, wanting to change the subject, and Mila understands.

She doesn't want to think further into what Peter must have done to him when he visited him the day after.

So she gives him a real smile. "Of course, how can I forget? On our third date, you took me out to that ice cream parlour. You scolded me for saying that I didn't like strawberry ice cream, and then you smashed my vanilla ice cream up in my face, saying that I didn't deserve ice cream if I didn't like the strawberry kind. Then when I asked you if I could taste yours, you frowned at me saying that if I didn't like it, you wouldn't waste such deliciousness on me." She continues smiling at the memory, wishing she could relieve it all again.

Jace starts diking into the pancakes while shaking his head at the memory, "At least you learned never to criticise strawberries when you were around me."

They both laugh and continues to talk about the memories they have shared together while eating pancakes.

And of course strawberries.
