Mila and Kyle sit in the courtroom, waiting for the trial to start.
There is a slightly awkward tension between them.
Back at the Hotel, Mila had waited sometime before she walked out to him.
She saw Kyle, slumped down against a wall.
Mila sat down next to him, and without saying a word, she took hold of his hand.
They sat in comfortable silence for a while.
"Families are a complicated thing," Kyle muttered, looking down at their locked hands.
Mila scoffed. "You don't say."
They had waited a couple of more minutes, just enjoying each others company, when Mila's phone got off.
It was Chelsea, saying she wasn't able to show up at court.
Mila's first reacting was angry.
She couldn't understand how her mom could leave her on a day like this.
Especially after their talk yesterday.
Kyle had tried to comfort Mila, saying that maybe Chelsea had a good reason for not being able to be there.
He took her side, which Mila didn't approve.
"You know," Mila starts out, in the silent courtroom. "I, actually thought after our talk yesterday, that she would try to improve, trying to be there for me after all the times she wasn't." She looks over at Kyle, who is already watching her intensely. "I guess I was wrong."
"After I saw you and Chelsea last night, I thought that if you two could work things out, after everything you have been through, then I could, definitely make peace as well with my dad."
Kyle takes a deep breath and looks up at the high chair, the Bench. The judge isn't there yet, but he will soon. Only a couple of more minutes to go.
"It didn't go as planned; He didn't regret his actions which I had hoped he would have done. Oh, no." A humourless laugh escapes him. "He actually, had the nerve to say, that he didn't regret a single thing he did."
Mila once again takes hold of his hand, just like she did outside the Hotel, only an hour ago.
"I didn't mean to side with your mom, but I just thought you should be happy, that she at least had the decency to call you and say that she wouldn't show up. He didn't even try to contact us when we left him."
They leave the conversation like that.
In comfortable silence.
The courtroom is starting to fill up.
"Mila."
Her head pikes up, as she recognises the voice.
She quickly wipes her head around, and a smile forms automatically on her lips.
Mila raises from her seat and hugs Jace, tightly.
"I can't believe he is finally getting what he deserves. " Jace starts out.
Mila sucks in a deep breath, "Me neither."
Kyle awkwardly coughs.
Mila looks down at her companion. The smile on her face grows even, bigger when she sees Kyle's red cheeks and the way he scratches the back of his neck.
Mila playfully nudges his shoulder. Kyle then raises himself from the chair, and they politely shake hands. "So, you are Ryan?" Jace asks him.
Now, it is Mila's turn to change shade. "Jace, this is Kyle. Kyle this is Jace."
