The next morning Mila felt ten thousand times lighter.
She and Chelsea still have some things to work out, but for the first time in years, they had an open talk about their feelings.
With that on her mind, Mila makes her way down to breakfast and a smile forms on her lips as she sees Kyle, standing all awkward in the middle of the room.
"Good morning." She greets him.
Kyle doesn't look at her. His focus is zoomed in on a middle-aged man standing at the buffet table.
Mila is about to reach a hand out to poke him, or something when he moves.
He goes over to the man, and the moment Mila sees the man's face, she knows who it is.
It is Kyle's dad.
Kyle's voice is hushed as he talks with his dad. And Mila can definitely, see the anger in his posture.
"Mila." A voice comes from behind, startling her.
The voice sounds familiar, but she can't pinpoint where she had heard it before.
She looks over at Kyle one last time before she directs her gaze to the man who has spoken to her.
"Oh, hello Blake." She tries to give him a polite smile - since she knows it isn't his fault that he fell for a married woman.
The smile looks strange, but it is there nonetheless.
He stares at her, for some time without saying a word.
Mila begins to shift on her feet and looks around, trying to find a way to get away from him.
"Mm, did you want something Blake?"
His eyes are, slightly narrowed as he continues to stare.
His fists are, clenched, too and it looks like he is out for a fight.
Mila can hear Kyle's voice beginning to rise from where he stands and talks with his dad, but something is keeping her rooting to the spot.
It feels like there is some history between her and blake, yet she doesn't know it.
"Blake!?" Chelsea calls out from behind him.
That must have pulled him out of his trance, as he unclenches his fists, and straightens his posture.
"Yes, dear." He answers his girlfriend, while he straightens his suit. Though his eyes never leave Mila.
Mila raises a questioning eyebrow and looks behind him at her mom.
As Chelsea sees her daughter deliberately looking at her, some part of her heart lights up a fire there has been shout down for way too long. And when she gives her one of her smiles, she can't help but smile back.
How could she have stayed mad at her for so long?
"Goodmorning," Chelsea says to Mila as she comes up and stands beside Blake- who by the way still looks at Mila with an emotionless face.
"What are you two talking about?"
Mila is about to shrug and say 'nothing' when Blake finally turns his gaze away from her. "I just told Mila how glad I was that you two finally figured things out. Secrets are a horrible thing, there can pull families, from each other. Isn't that right, dear?"
Chelsea pales, "Sometimes secrets are better-kept hidden. Therefore nobody gets hurt, for something they did in the past."
Mila narrows her eyes at her mom's words. Didn't she tell her all of it last night?
