"Magnus, please!"

Alec stood beside Echo who was on the table in front of him with the arrow still sticking out of her shoulder. Alec had Magnus on the phone, but the Warlock was hesitant.

"Aldertree, said that no Downworlder is allowed at the Institute."

Alec clearly had tears in his eyes, "I don't care. Please. She's dying."

When they had realized the arrow that had wounded Echo was runed, they knew that there was no way of taking the arrow out without killing her.

Magnus gave a sigh, "All right." The line went dead and Alec resumed his position of holding Echo's limp hand. He looked up at Isabelle, "He's coming. Go tell Aldertree."

Isabelle didn't waste a single second. She nodded her head and she was out of the room in a flash. Alec looked down at Echo and concentrated on her breathing that he could see. Her breathing was slower than he would have liked, but she was still alive, which he was grateful for.

As Alec held her hand, he could feel her pain. The connection from the wedded rune made it easier for the two to connect to one another. From beneath Alec's hand, he felt Echo's body tense. Echo gave a sputtering gasp as she woke from her unconsciousness. The moment that Echo was alert she let out a shout of pain.

Alec quickly stood from the chair he was on and hovered over his wife, "Hey, you're okay. Magnus is coming."

Echo let out a series of pants of pain before she looked up at Alec with tired, red eyes. Echo gripped onto Alec's hand as tightly as she could to help rid herself of her pain. She let out a breath before her words followed, "Where is she?"

Alec was confused, "Echo, what happened?"

Echo struggled against the pain and the dots in her vision, "Jocelyn—shot me." Echo's words were broken as blood started to coat the back of her throat. Alec noticed her struggle and acted quickly.

"We gotta get you on your side." The Shadowhunter quickly rounded to Echo's uninjured side and gripped her body.

Alec pulled Echo's body onto her side whilst Echo gave a cry in protest. As soon as she was on her side, she was able to gather a full breath without it being coated in blood. Echo relaxed her head onto the table but was still fully aware of the pain. Echo could feel herself starting to break.

"Alec," Echo pulled at Alec's hand until he looked down at her.

Alec's blue-green eyes were swollen and red from his sudden burst of emotion. Once Echo knew that Alec was listening, she continued, "The arrow—it's runed. If Magnus—doesn't get here—"

Alec immediately shook his head, "No, you are not going to die."

Echo pulled at Alec's hand again, "We don't kn—know that. Last time," Echo grunted in pain as she accidentally moved her shoulder.

"Last time, the arrow burned me." She pulled in a weak breath, "I wasn't—I wasn't a demon then. I am now."

Alec shook his head, "You are still a Shadowhunter. You are still alive."

Echo wanted so badly to tell Alec the full truth. She could feel the burn of the rune as well as the dematerializing of her own flesh. Where the arrow was embedded, she could almost see her death in the near future.

Echo tried to give a small smile, "Promise me,"

Alec shook his head with new tears in his eyes, but Echo continued, "Promise me that you will try to be happy." Echo felt herself start to cry, "With Magnus. Okay?"
