The tone of Echo's phone brought her out of her slumber. She shook her head and quickly pulled the phone from the nightstand and answered the call without sitting up.
"Hello?" She tried to smooth out her voice.
"Clary found a warlock to bring your mother back."
Echo reacted immediately. She shot straight up in her bed, "What?"
"I told her I would do anything to help."
Echo couldn't believe what she was hearing, "And you agreed to this? Alec!"
"I know, I know. But now that we are here, something doesn't feel right."
Echo quickly pushed the sheets from her bed and started to replace her sleepwear with day clothing.
"Where are you?"
"At a place on thirty-third. Iris Rouse. She's the warlock who owns this—this office."
Echo placed the phone on speaker as she pulled on her shoes, "And you thought going along with this idea was sane? Alec, I'm pretty sure I am the anomaly when it comes to coming back from the dead."
Echo stood and took the phone in her hand, "I'm on my way." Simultaneously Echo ended the call and teleported. She lost her balance on the landing and she had to steady herself. She looked up at the building that she was in front of and found that she was in the right place. Echo pocketed her phone and rushed up the steps and into the building.
As Echo entered the room she found Alec sitting on a bench and it seemed that he had just sat down. Alec looked up at Echo and let out a breath but Echo shook her head. The Shadowdemon wanted to shout at him, but she noticed that they weren't alone. There was a small girl with dark skin and fluffy hair standing right in front of Alec. Echo was going to ask the girl her name, but the three of them were suddenly distracted by the wail of an infant.
Echo arrived in the middle of the moment and was confused. The little girl quietly walked away and up the steps. Alec looked up at Echo and she noticed that he was just as confused as she was. Alec stood up and both of them slowly followed the little girl up the steps. As they were walking Echo let her anger slip.
"What the hell were you thinking?" Echo's words were barely above a whisper.
Alec leaned over to her; "You really want to do this now?"
Echo let out a breath, "This conversation is not going to just vanish."
"Fine, but we can talk about this—" Alec stopped his words when he saw a woman walk out of a door carrying an infant.
They both examined the baby and noticed that when it blinked, it blinked like a reptile and not a human. Echo's anger was replaced by slight fear as the woman quickly retreated back into the dark room.
The door closed softly and Alec and Echo shared a glance before Alec slowly walked over to the door and gave a gentle tap on the wood. To both of their surprise, the door opened and the woman stepped out and closed the door. As the woman turned around, Echo found that she was very pregnant. The woman put a finger to her lips, "Shh. There are babies sleeping."
Alec kept his voice soft, "I'm looking for Clary."
"Who?" Echo could clearly feel the manipulation in the woman.
Alec narrowed his eyes, "I came here with her." His words were slow, "You met her. Where is she?"
The woman looked down knowing she was caught in her lie. She gestured with her head for both of them to follow her.
