The carpet in Echo's room had slowly worn down to a matted streak. Her feet scrubbed at the flooring as she paced. She had a twitch in her hand and she wasn't able to rid of it; she knew it wasn't Isabelle but her own power erupting in her fingertips. She wanted nothing more than for the feeling to dissipate, but she feared that she would never have that luxury. Echo clenched and unclenched her hands several times, but that did little to dilute the tingling. She had even resorted in using her Iratze rune, but of course it didn't work to her advantage.

It had been two days since Echo had found out that Jace wasn't her twin and she wasn't sure why she was so caught up in the information. She knew when she had first been told that Jace was her blood, that it wasn't true. She knew Jace wasn't her twin, but she held on to the hope that maybe he was her family. Echo bit at her lip as she continued to pace. Her thoughts enveloped her mind and she was startled when a knock sounded on her door.

Echo pulled in a gasp before quickly walking to her wooden door and pulling it open to reveal Jace. Echo didn't say a word and Jace took that as his invitation to speak.

"Inquisitor Herondale has arrived and she wants to speak with you, me and Clary."

Echo let out a breath through her nose, "Pass." She pushed away from the door and Jace shook his head. The Shadowhunter entered Echo's room as she busied herself with her hands.

"Echo, you can't deny the audience with the Inquisitor."

Echo licked her lips, "I just did."

Jace let out a sigh, "This will give her a chance to meet you before making assumptions about you."

"I said no." Echo's words were harsher than she had intended them to be. She turned to face Jace, "Just give her my regards. Tell her I'm indisposed or something."

Jace walked further into the room, "You can't keep yourself locked in here."

Echo looked down, "Yes, I can."

"Echo, we need you."

Echo looked up at Jace. "You need me? For what? Do you know why I've kept myself in my room?" Echo didn't wait for an answer, "Because the man who kidnapped and tortured me is in the basement and it is only a matter of time before I go down there and reciprocate what he did to me. And where would I be in the eyes of the Clave if I did that?"

Jace let out a breath before looking up at Echo, "I'm sorry. I didn't know you knew."

Echo narrowed her eyes at him, "I'm telepathic, Jace. It was easy to figure out."

The usually callous Shadowhunter swallowed his nerves, "Okay. You don't have to meet the Inquisitor right now, but you will have to in the future."

Echo displaced her jaw, "Fine."

Jace figured that the conversation had ended and he was no longer wanted. He let out a strained smile and exited Echo's room, pulling her door closed. Echo let out a breath she didn't know she was holding when the door had closed. Echo could feel her body tingle and she wasn't sure what the cause of it was. She figured that she was feeling the withdraw symptoms of Isabelle or it was the energy in her body that wanted to escape.

For the second time that day, there was a knock on Echo's door, only this time she only glanced at the wood. Echo let out a breath and continued to lie on her bed, "What, Alec?"

The door slowly opened and Alec popped his head into the room, "Do you want to go on a mission?"

Echo kept her eyes up to the ceiling, "No."
