"Cyrus, you're going to need to actually run if have any hope of joining the track team."
"Buffy, how many times do I have to tell you, I don't want to join the track team. I'd be much better off if I was at home watching the Godfather right now.
"You need a sport to get into college BoBo and track is the easiest sport. All you do is run around in an oval. Plus, it's the only one you have a chance of getting into." Buffy lectured.
"But Buffy" I wined. I already told you guys that I wasn't the best at physical activity, or any kind of physical exertion for that matter.
"No buts. Now you're either about to turn into Usain Bolt right this moment or you're not going to go to to the spoon for a month mister." Jeez mom.
"How about I make you an offer you can't refuse," I said trying to put on my best Maffia impression. Well, let's just say it sounded like I was on the verge of having an asthma attack.
"Cyrus, stop with the Godfather references and just run, please," Buffy said getting tired of waiting.
That's when I noticed the scars. Buffy changed into a tank top after school so that she could drag me to the track. Her arms were exposed and I saw the faint lines. Well, some were faint. Most looked like they just healed over. Hell, wouldn't be surprised if some were still bleeding.
I grabbed her arms and turned them over to reveal even more cuts. These ones were deeper.
'Buffy, whats this?" I asked nervously.
"Oh, that, that's nothing. Hey, you wanna go and get Pizza. I'm tired of running. Is it just me or is it hot today. It's so hot that I think I have to go home. Bye Cyrus." she said while quickly turning away.
Before she got off of the track field, I grabbed her wrist causing her to flinch in pain and turned around.
"Are these cuts..." I took a deep breath before continuing. "Buffy, do you cut yourself?"
"No Cyrus, I already told you that..." Then suddenly, I saw a wave of anger and fury wash over her.
"You know what Cyrus, maybe I do cut myself, but that doesn't mean that you have the right to stop me. Your not in any better of an any better place than I am in right now so just leave me alone.
She pushed me back a little but I was determined. I wasn't going to let my best friend cut her life short with a razor blade.
"Buffy, if you just let me help you." I said while placing my hand on her shoulder.
"I don't need help from a stoner." she said coldly while swatting my hand off of her shoulder, making it sting. "You really don't think that I know your high everyday economics. Just because Andi doesn't notice doesn't mean that I don't notice. So just leave me ALONE!" she yelled as she used all of her strength to throw me across the field.
I felt my head the back of my head make contact with the rough cement as my brain shook against the inside of my skull. Oh boy, was I going to have a bad concussion tomorrow. After a few more scrapes and bruises, my body came to a stop just ahead of the chain-link fence that divided the track-field from the rest of the school.
"Cyrus, I'm so sorry." I heard Buffy begin before breaking down into sobs and running away.
The last thing I heard before I drifted out of conciseness was Buffy's sobs as she ran away to what I hoped was not another razorblade.
