Chapter 3

Sun and Moon

Varian and Rapunzel looked through all the things in the chest. They were getting nowhere. Most of the things had the symbol with a circle and three lines but that was it. Varian looks at a sword covered in cloth(??), and he grabs it. It was really heavy and he removes the cloth(???) off the real sword to only find a sword that kinda of looked like the black rocks.
He gasped before dropping it. Rapunzel looks at it and said "That looks like the rocks." Varian nods and said "I wonder if it is unbreakable." Rapunzel puts her hand on the sword and the sword lights up blue while her hair glows a bright yellow. Varian could feel the power in the sword. He said "Let's see if it can break the rocks?" Rapunzel removes her hand and both the sword and her hair go back to normal. She smiles and said "Sure!" She picks it up, both the sword and her hair glowing. She focuses to make a black rock appear. It kind of startled Varian. The rock reminded him on the days the village was overrun by rocks and when Rapunzel beat him... Rapunzel said "Varian?" Varian gets out of the memory quickly and he said "I'm ready." He moves away to not be hit by either the sword or the rock. She slices the rock with the sword. Their were no scratches on the sword.
One of the guards most of heard it cause they hear a door open. Rapunzel said quickly and quietly to Varian "Go and hide." He pauses for a moment before grabbing a painting and carrying it to the hole in the wall. Both Varian and Rudiger hide in the hole. Rapunzel checks to make sure no one can see them before looking at the entrance to see Henry, the newest guard. He said "Umm... Princess I.... Ummm.... Heard a sound and came to check on it." Varian heard the guard's voice and wonders how on earth he became a guard with that many ummms in his sentence. Rapunzel said "Oh... It's nothing." She smiles before saying "I want all the guards to return to the castle. I want one of y'all to tell my father that I want to stay in Old Corona and to have no one come here." The newest guard nods and said "Umm.... Yes Princess." He nods again before bowing, -kind of falling- and leaving. Rapunzel lets out a sigh of relief and looks outside to see all the guards leave.
She returns to the room before removing the painting hiding the hole and saying "Their gone." Varian gets out the hole with Rudiger and mumbles "Thanks." Rapunzel heard the word and was quite surprised, it's not like everyday you met someone who hates you who is sometimes being nice too you. Rapunzel smiles and said "No problem." She sees Pascal looking at the sword, turning into the crystal's color.
She laughs and picks Pascal up and onto her shoulders. Varian walked past them and looks at the sword, he said "I am guessing this sword it made out of the rocks." Rapunzel nods and said "I guess so." He grabs the broken piece of the rock before walking to his old experiment room. He looked at his dad in the orange crystal before removing a cloth to show his alchemy table. Rapunzel ask him "What are you doing?" He said "Well to look at the crystal better.... Hopefully." Rapunzel nods before seeing Rudiger running to Varian, getting onto his shoulders. She smiles.
It has been three days and Varian hasn't been able to find anything about the rocks. Rapunzel was eating an apple from a tree near here. Varian had brought two while she was sleeping. One for himself and the other for her. Out of boredom she had painted some of the house. Varian was either eating ot doing alchemy, barely sleeping. Rapunzel once asked him about stopping but he only said "I can't! I'm so close! Almost done...." Varian pours some potion over it, nothing happens.
Varian bangs his his hand on the table. Rapunzel ask "Varian... Is everything ok?" Varian said "No! Nothing is happing too the rocks! It's like nothing I do matters! The only thing that affects the rocks is that potion." He points to the potion that made his dad in cased by the orange crystal "and your hair!" He picks up the crystal before yelping and dropping the crystal. Rapunzel ask "What's wrong Varian." He just stares at his blue streak of hair as it glows. Rapunzel ask "Varian?" She walks up to him before having her hair start to glow. He looks at Rapunzel's hair then to his blue streak. He was wordless as to what is happing.
Varian said "I just need to calm down." He starts to take deep breaths, trying really hard to calm himself down. After a while Rapunzel and Varian hair stop glowing. Rapunzel ask "What was that?" Varian said "I have no idea. It only happen after I touch this crystal." He picks up the dark crystal and both their hair and the crystal start to glow again. Varian quickly drops the crystal and everything goes back to normal. He said "Ok, so when ever I and possibly you touch the crystal our hair and crystal start to glow."
He starts to pace around the room. Rapunzel said "We need to go to Corona to ask for help." Varian stops in his tracks and said "No! We aren't going back to Corona!" Rapunzel ask "Why not!?" He said "I can figure this out.... And well last time I check I'm still a villain." Rapunzel smiles and put her hand on Varian's shoulder before saying "We can change that, I haven't gone to Corona in a while and I need..... I miss my friends and family." Varian eyes dart to the ground when Rapunzel mention friends and family. Rapunzel begs "Please Varian!" Varian snaps "Why can't you go by yourself!?" Rapunzel said "Well I can't lea-" She stops herself in mid sentence. Varian looks away from her before grabbing his stuff. Rapunzel looks puzzled and she ask him "What are you doing." He snaps again "Well you can't trust me to be by myself and I have to come with you." He grabs Rudiger and puts him on his shoulder before opening the door and saying "Aren't you coming, Princess?" Rapunzel smiles before Pascal gets onto her shoulder and following Varian.
As Rapunzel and Varian get closer to Corona Varian starts to slow down and worried crosses his face. Rapunzel ask him "What's wrong, Varian?" Varian looks up surprised and he snaps "Nothing!" He looks down and Rapunzel sighs and said "Is it because of a few months ago?" Varian looks down and said "Yeah..... I'm still a criminal....and...." Rapunzel smiles and said "Everything is going to be fine. And also we have to still figure out the crystal hair thing...." Varian nods and said "Yea..."
When they get to Corona, Varian looks around uneasily. Varian thinks 'It's normal to go back to the castle that you were a prisoner in just because your enemy pleased you to go.....' At that very moment he was very tempted to turn around and run back to Old Corona. But at that moment the Head Guard and Cassandra come to them. He looks at the ground as Rapunzel looks at them. Cassandra said "See as through you got Varian." Rapunzel said "Actually we came for help." The Head Guard ask "We?" Rapunzel said "Varian and me." Looks of confusion crossed the head Guard and Cassandra face. So they go to the King and Queen.
In the room was the King, the Queen, Head Guard, Cassandra, Eugene, Rapunzel, and Varian. Rapunzel just finished the story and so the King said "So let me get this straight, Varian also has this weird reaction to these rocks and now he is on our side." Rapunzel nods, Varian thinks 'I never said I was on your side....'. Though he knew that everyone EXPECT Rapunzel believed that, he was still an enemy, but he couldn't blame them.
