Chapter 18

Change of Heart??

Varian follows James, he didn't let his mind wonder, his mind was already made up. He ask James "Where are we going?" James said "Just wait." Varian nods and follows quietly.
Rapunzel, Eugene, Cassandra, Pascal, and Rudiger and walk out the cave, feeling the fresh breeze. Rapunzel said "I throught I would never be outside again." Eugene smiles and said "You don't think we would find you?" Rapunzel rubs her left arm and said "Well everything was going down." Cassandra said "But everything is going to be ok." Rapunzel nods and Eugene ask "How are we going to track them?" Rapunzel ask "We need someone who can track." Cassandra smiles and said "Maximus!"
Rapunzel, Eugene, and Cassandra follow Maximus as he follows a trail. It has been a week since Varian and Rapunzel found James. It took them a while to get out the forest, to wait for Maximus to come back from a trip and to find the place again. Rapunzel looks around and ask "Have any of y'all been to this part of the forest?" It was dark and gloomy. It gave everyone the chills. Eugene said "No." Cassandra said "I didn't know this even existed." Maximus stomps his foot to get their attention. Rapunzel ask "What is it Maximus?" Maximus points with his muzzle to a cave. Cassandra ask "They are in their?" Maximus nods and Eugene said "I hear talking talking." Everyone nods. They start to whisper and Cassandra ask "What's the plan?" Eugene said "We sneak in and attack!" Cassandra said "We are all doomed." Eugene said "Do you have a better plan?" Rapunzel said "Calm down guys, this isn't the time to fight. If we don't come up with another plan in a minute than let's do Eugene." Eugene smiles smugly and said "Ok." Cassandra rolls her eyes and said "Fine."
A minute passes and they do Eugene's plan, but before that Eugene said "Two of us need to take down James while the other takes down Varian." Rapunzel said "I can take Varian." Cassandra and Eugene nod. They sneak in the cave to see James walking around a camp fire, Varian looks asleep. Rapunzel steps forward only to step on a branch and hear it snaps. James looks towards them and he smirks. "Looks like some people came to join us," said James. They all step out. Varian stirs, as he looks up at Rapunzel, Eugene, and Cassandra. His eyes widen in fear.
Rapunzel was sees that and was confused by that. James smirks at Varian and said "Show them our weapon." Varian gets out a green potion and he is about to throw it, he throws it but not at Eugene, Cassandra, or Rapunzel. He throws it at James. It hits James, and James falls onto the ground, knocked out. Rapunzel ask "Varian." He looks at them and he said "Yea?" Rapunzel ask "What did it do?" Varian said "It knocked him out. It's a sleeping potion, smell it and you fall instantly asleep." Eugene ask "Why are you helping us now?"
Varian said "I was helping y'all, I was just tricking James. I was going too find out his plan but I couldn't because y'all came." Cassandra said "You could of knocked us out." Varian said "The potion he wanted me to make was one that burns anything." Rapunzel's, Eugene's, and Cassandra's face were surprised. Varian seems confused and ask "What's the problem? I didn't make it." Eugene lets out a sigh of relief and Rapunzel ask "Why did you leave with him." Varian said "I didn't want anyone to get hurt. And so I went with him, I was going to trick him but then y'all kinda ruined the plan." Cassandra smiles and said "And now we can lock him up." Varian smiles back and said "Yea." They turn to the spot to where James is but he wasn't their. Worry fills Varian's face. He said "Wait what? It should of lasted twenty minutes?" Rapunzel ask "Where is he?" All four of them look worried and Varian said "I might know." He walks to a box and he opens the box. In the box was a secret passage.
Varian said "He told me about it." Varian grabs the a potion, he shakes it to make it glow and he climbs down first. All three of them look at each other before following him. Varian jumps off the ladder, and looks around. Rapunzel, Eugene, and Cassandra get down and Cassandra said "Varian?" It was pitch black down their and they couldn't see Varian's potion glow. Rapunzel trips and she yelps. Eugene said "Rapunzel?" He helps her up and she said "I tripped over a rock...." He smiles and said "It could of been worse." They turn to Cassandra to see her make a flame for light. Rapunzel said "Now we need to find Varian." Eugene ask "What's with him disappearing?" All three of them shrug and they follow the passage. It takes them a while to find a big cave, they kept going into circles. When they walk to a cave they see Varian's green potion on the ground.
They hear a chuckle and all three of them turn around. They see James standing on a rock jutting out of the wall, above the entrance. It was about 50 feet away from the ground and behind him was an opening. Rapunzel thinks 'Their must be another tunnel to get up their.' Beside him was Varian, he was conscious but had chains around his arms and legs, his mouth had a rope around it so he couldn't talk. James said "Now I can't trust the runt, but I think I can get a deal out of y'all three." Cassandra said "I'll never do anything for you!" Eugene said "I have to agree with Cassandra." Rapunzel stays quiet. James smirks and said "I want y'all to tell me where the Sun Flower is." Eugene ask "And why would we tell you that?" James smirks and said "I'd hope you would say that." He grabs Varian by the collar of his shirt, and he drags him to the edge of the rock. Varian struggles but James makes Varian stand on the corner of the rock, almost falling. Rapunzel said "Wait! Wait!" James pulls Varian away from the edge and waits for Rapunzel to continued. She continues "The Sun Flower is destroyed." James narrows his eyes and he said "Who has the power?" Rapunzel said "I do." He smirks and said "Now I know who to kill."
They seem confused and he pushes Varian off the rock.
