❁ The scorch was hot. And it was filled with fear. The Gladers kept moving on, with every weak bone in their bodies.
They tried to remain strong as much as they could. And they all succeeded.
Newt and y/n were close. Extremely close. With the stress of the Scorch and WCKD on their trails, they were growing apart.
News had arose around the fact of being immune or not. The answer to this problem made Newt and y/n even more upset.

One early morning in the scorch, the sun was just rising. The sky was filled with orange and purple tones. Y/n loved this part of morning and got up. She left the small area were her friends remained. All of them still asleep. Or so she thought.
As she sat upon a tall hill, watching the sun rise. She heard a noise come from her right.
Newt.
She glanced down from where she sat and stared in his direction. He was leaned over. Looked as if he were doing nothing. Maybe thinking?
She jumped down from where she was and went to where he was.
Newt glanced up to her.
Y/n noticed that there was a tear falling from his eye. He hurriedly wipes it away.
Y/n didn't say anything. She just sat down beside Newt and grabbed his hand.
She wrapped her fingers between his and held his hand close to her. She put it on her lap. Nonchalantly, grazing his hand with her fingers. In a comforting way.
This helped both of them.
They continued to stare into the sunrise. The silence comforting them both.
Y/n glanced at Newt.
"And if this is about the news, then I don't want to hear it. You are here. You are here now. So be with the people you love and act like there's no tomorrow. Don't spend your time worrying about the future. Everything happens for a reason."
Newt stared into her eyes.
"Thank you love. I needed this. I just needed you."
Y/n got up, wanting to go back and check on the camp.
She turned around. "And I love you."
Newt smiled. "I love you too."
Newt continued to sit and think about his situation. He was glad he got time with his friends and the love of his life. No matter how long it would be.
