sweat was practically dripping down my face. the hot sun was no joke in the summer. it didn't help having a heavy bag with supples on my back. i also kept a coat just incase i would need it as a blanket or it rains.

daryl and i were on a run scavenging some supplies for Alexandria. we've been close since the farm and we talk about a lot. these runs are also a blessing as we spend more time together. he protects me. i protect him.

it's really sweet when i catch him doing something selfless, like finding something meaningful and giving it to a friend who mentioned it once. i always wondered more about daryl. we talk all the time and have deep conversations, but he always seems like he holds information about his past back. i knew some things but he never liked talking about himself. we've only talked about it a few times and it ends with him upset.

"hey look." he caught my attention. there were two houses one on either side of the road.

they looked pretty clear and no walkers in site, "you take one, i'll take the other. see what we can find." i looked over at him.

he nodded. "be safe." usually he likes us to stick together because he doesn't wanna risk something happening. i reassure him it's okay to go separate ways, we were both strong as it was.

i make my way into the white house, it was small, one story. there was a fireplace and dining room table. chairs scattered across the room. the kitchen had dishes on the counter and cabinets opened.

i scanned through the cabinets and found 3 cans of fruit. also a flashlight in the drawer.

i head down the hallway and look to see a bedroom, only with no bed. just a dresser with clothes and blankets scattered. across the hall was a bathroom. i looked and found nothing more than a hair brush, which i left. the sun was setting and it shined through the small window.

i look at myself in the mirror. decent clothes with a few blood stains. weapon in my hand. dirt on my face. i was shocked at who i had become, the girl before all of this wouldn't of thought i would ever be here. in this house, looking for supples to stay alive.

i decide to meet daryl and make my way back. as i open the front door he's stepping inside the house. i jump back not expecting him.

"oh sorry. didn't know i was that scary." he smirked and made his way to the kitchen.

i laugh. "you aren't." he just laughs in return. i follow him into the kitchen. "did you find anything?"

he opens his bag on the counter. "couple canned vegetables and batteries. and some socks. just incase" he smiled.

"good i found a flashlight and some fruit. cute socks."

he smiled and looked down, "we should probably stay here for the night. it's already getting dark and we won't make it back in time."

i glanced at the window and it was still light out. "we could make it back in time if we leave now."

he sighed. "i'm not putting you in danger if i don't have to. i don't want us out there walking home in the dark. well be okay here and leave first thing."

i sat my bag down, "okay. but you don't need to worry about me so much. please don't actually. think about yourself too sometimes. if we had to leave now, we would make it. either way we would make it."

he glanced down, "i know," he sat the rest of his stuff down. "i'm gonna go get some wood for a fire."

i nodded and went to the bedroom to find some blankets.

the hard wood floors were making my back hurt. we had laid 2 sheets down and used one to cover up. it had to be 2 am and i couldn't fall asleep.

the ashes in the fire were still burning, giving off some light and some heat. everything still felt cold. daryl was beside me. we were laying opposite ways. he didn't say anything so i figured he was asleep.

i pulled myself closer together and started shivering more. the wind was blowing outside and it gave me chills.

i was trying to stay quite not to wake him.

i felt him turn over but i didn't move. "are you really that cold?" he mumbled.

i took a deep breath still freezing, "yeah,"

i soon felt two arms wrap around me and pull me closer. i felt the warmth radiating off him already.

i turn over to face him and get even closer, feeling so relaxed and comfy now. i felt safe, like he could protect me from anything.

"this is really comfy." he mumbled as his head lay above mine. he runs his fingers across my back.

"it is. i didn't take you as a cuddle type person." i smile at the thought. i knew what his face looked like at the comment.

"i'll stop."

"no no. i've never been this comfy in a long time."

he pulled me closer, "me either. let's do this more."

my eye lids were getting heavy and i was about to fall asleep. "please."

i felt him now touching my hair, admiring it as he was relaxed. "i always wondered if this moment would ever happen."

i smile to myself, "wow daryl dreams about cuddling me, that just made my day."

i felt him smile. "don't go telling people."

i pulled him closer, "this is our moment. no one else's."

as the time went on, i was almost asleep. he kept playing with my hair and i heard him mumble something but couldn't understand it.

"thank you." i barley hear his voice.

i cuddling in even closer to him and he does the same. i knew i needed this to happen again, and i knew it would. after this i wasn't sure how we could ever go back to falling asleep by ourselves.

but soon enough we both fall asleep, the best sleep in a long time.
