Finn
Gwen is hysterical.
Half an hour ago she was grabbing my arm in fear because people dressed up like zombies were popping up every where while we were on a scary ride. Now she has a huge smile on her face while she looks up at the fireworks exploding in the starry night sky.
The whole thing was beautiful.
I am staring at her instead of the fireworks before she turns to me and gives me a look that translates into 'Why are you looking at me?'. I quickly turn away and look back into the colourful sky. Gwen and I are both lying down on our backs on top of the freshly trimmed grass. I inhale the crisp night air and steal another glance at Gwen before slowly closing my eyes. Listening to the popping sounds of the fireworks. A couple minutes go by before Gwen breaks the silence between us.
"Do you know why I love fireworks so much?" Gwen asks quietly, just enough for me to hear her over the popping sounds. I open one eye and look at her. Her dark blonde hair is scattered all around her head making it look like a halo, while her face is a soft silhouette and her hands are resting on the center on her stomach. I don't answer for a while so Gwen continues.
" I love fireworks not because their pretty or colourful. I love them because they have every right to be in the sky. They are worthy of exploding in front of millions of people. Fireworks have no secrets they let everything out all at once." Gwen signs. I don't know how to respond and Gwen seems to expected that.
We leave the park at 9:00 and the beginning of car ride is silent expected for 'Imagine Dragons' playing on the radio. Even though I think Gwen is trying to hide it I can here her sing along to the music. I decide to join in and start singing along too. Gwen smiles out the window and sings a little louder. I turn up the volume and sing even louder in my out of tune voice. Gwen laughs and sings louder too. Gwen had a great voice, it sounds like warm milk and sweet honey even when she is talking. We aren't looking at each other but I can tell she is smiling, as am I.
"Gwen you have a great voice. Why don't you sing more offend?" I ask whiling stealing a glance at her soft face. She slides down into her seat and blushes. I suck in a laugh and instead just smile.
"I do sing. I am in a band," Gwen mumbles to herself. Gwen is in a Band? I was not expecting that.
"Gwendoline Luna Greene! You are in a band? Why did you never tell me that?" I say over dramatically. Gwen bits her lip and shrugs. "It never came up," She says but it sounds more like a question. "I'm in a band too." I laugh " I auditioned a couple days ago"
" I am guessing your not the lead singer," Gwen chuckles at her own comment.
"Ha ha, very funny Gwen. Go ahead make fun of my singing voice. Don't worry I can take the hate," I laugh. She just laughs and shakes her head.
The rest of the car ride goes by quickly and the next thing I know we are driving down Gwen's street. I stop the truck in front of her house. I quickly hop out on the car to go open her door for her, while Gwen looks at me through the window like I'm crazy.
" Your home awaits you ma'dam," I say while bowing and opening her door. Gwen just shakes her head and smiles. "Thank you sir. I had a lovely evening with you," Gwen responds in her fake British accent. Gwen and I exchange ear-to-ear smiles.
Suddenly in only a couple seconds I feel Gwen's arms wrapped around me. It takes me a second to realize that she is hugging me. I hug her back squeezing her tiny body. "Really Finn, thank you. I had a great night," Gwen says into my shoulder. I squeeze her tightly and he flinche. "Way to tight Finn. Your killing me," Gwen says while slightly hitting my back. I release and smile down at her. I wink with a sheepish smile on my face and she just rolls her eyes.
" Good night Finnis," She says calling me by my full name and walking to her front door.
"Good night Gwendoline," I say laughing.
Gwendoline Luna Greene and I are two of a kind.
