Race was walking down the sidewalk, when he felt rain. Of course, he thought grumpily. It was a cloudy, and now rainy, Tuesday in spring and he had no umbrella. He picked up his pace trying to get to the deli where Jack and some of their other friends were going to hang out at. Unfortunately, there were a lot of people trying to get where they were going too. Of course, it is New York, who wouldn't be in a hurry?

All of the people hurried by fast, almost none of them smiling. The honking of car horns were constantly prominent. And the lights were always bright, even in rainy weather like this. Everything was just so grey and boring. Home sweet home, Race scoffed. He'd spent 19 years of his life here and nothing had ever changed.

He checked his phone to see what time it was, when he bumped into someone. "Oh sorry," Race said almost automatically, but not exactly sincerely. The man he bumped into was a few inches shorter, much stockier, and seemed to be around his age. His dark brown hair was getting matted to his head as he also didn't have an umbrella. His brown eyes bored into Race's light blue ones. "Watch where you's going," he said stoically. Race just shrugged and walked away. He was definitely not miffed and thinking about how cute that stranger was.

The rain started to get really bad just as Race managed to get to the deli. "Ay Racer! You've finally decided to show up!" Jack said teasingly, oblivious to all the people who were staring at him for yelling across the deli. Race rolled his eyes and walked over to where everyone was. "Great to see you too, Cowboy." He said somewhat crossly as he slid into the booth the others had managed to snag. It was all the way in the back and looked slightly worn. Jack ruffled his hair, as Race looked around the booth they were at. Katherine, Davey, Les, Sarah, Crutchie, Jojo, Specs, and Romeo had all managed to squeeze in to the obviously too small booth. "Heya fellas!" He greeted with a bright smile, "And ladies," he said with a wink. Specs shook his head "I thought it was Romeo's job to flirt with everyone!" Causing the whole table to erupt with laughter.

Romeo feigned offense and shoved Specs who shoved him back. They were lightly shoving each other when Davey finally cut in. "Alright you two, that's enough." Specs and Romeo stopped, but after grinning at each other, said in perfect unison "Yes mother." Davey sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, and once again everyone was laughing. Sarah patted Davey's head in a somewhat reassuring way and Les added innocently "You do kinda act like a mom though." Davey looked up indignantly at his little brother "I do not!"

"Yeah no, that's a lie," Jojo snorted and Race nodded in agreement. "Aw c'mon fellas," Crutchie added sweetly, "Davey can't help that he's the mom friend!" Sarah giggled "If David's the mom friend then what are me and Kathy?" Jack thought about this for a moment before finally coming up with something. "Sarah, you's are like the older sister. And Katherine.." He trailed of and Katherine narrowed her eyes slightly. "Katherine is the crazy aunt!" He said with a joking grin. Katherine elbowed him lightly "You the most impossible boy-" but Jack, having heard this many times simply rolled his eyes and finished it. "-ever. Yeah yeah I know. But technically I'm not a boy, I'm 21." Katherine shrugged, "More like 12."

Jack laughed and lightly kissed her on the nose. Several "oooh's" were heard around the table, Race's being the loudest. "Oh can it, you knuckleheads," Jack said. The waiter came around and everyone got either water or lemonade. Everyone was making small talk, but Race's thoughts strayed to the stranger. And for a moment he thought maybe the world wasn't so grey and boring after all. A hand, presumably Jack's, snapped in front of his face shaking him out of his daze. "Someone has a dreamy look on their face! Who are you thinkin' about? A pretty girl?" Jojo said playfully. All eyes were on him and Race lamely said, "It's no one."

Jack scoffed. "Yeah right that's bullsh-" Davey glared at him, and started to put his hands over Les' ears when Jack corrected himself. "Bull crap. Is what I meant to say, heh." Les swatted at Davey's hands and gave him a pointed look. "So," Davey started up again, "Who is it?" Race smirked and said "Well it's not a girl, I can tell ya that." Everyone's jaw dropped. "You're.." Specs trailed off. "Gay," Race said proudly. No one said anything, and Race suddenly became very anxious and worried. "That's okay with you guys right?"

"Of course it's fine Racer," Jack smiled and everyone nodded. "In fact, I'm bisexual," he added and Race rolled his eyes. "Yeah I know you's ain't exactly discreet about it." Everyone tried to stifle a laugh, but Katherine and Sarah couldn't keep it in. "If we're gonna come out, might as well say I'm lesbian." Sarah said in between laughs and high fived Katherine, across the table, as she already knew. "Yay for everyone!" Crutchie cheered.

The bell above the door rang causing Race, and mostly everyone at the table, to look up. It was him. The man Race ran into earlier. Everyone at the table continued talking and joking but Race seemed to be stuck staring at the stranger. When he finally caught Race's eye, Race grinned causing the stranger to raise an eyebrow. He sat down at a couple of booths away, purposely facing the other direction. Race frowned slightly but shrugged it off. The waiter came back with the drinks, straws, and napkins. Race looked at the napkin and grinned, he had a plan.

"I have to go to the bathroom," Race announced suddenly. "Okay and?" Jack asked, and the usual chatter continued. Race got up, in his hand he tightly held a balled up paper napkin. He walked towards the bathrooms, passing the stranger and flicking the napkin at him. It hit him square in the back of the neck. He turned around, looking very annoyed to see Race, who was smirking. He winked at him, which caused the stranger to look even more annoyed and slightly flustered. Race just continued walking by and to the bathrooms.

When he was walking back, a paper napkin was thrown at the side of his face. Race caught it, barely, but knew for a fact the stranger threw it. He looked up and sure enough the dark haired man was sitting there, arms crossed, slightly smirking. Now it was Race's turn to blush, as he quickly went to sit down with his friends.

A few hours later when everyone started to leave, Race realized he still had the napkin in his pocket. The stranger had left earlier, much to Race's disappointment. He went to go throw it out when he saw writing on it. A number. Race stood there shocked, shoved it back in his pocket and waved bye to his friends.

The second he was outside he squealed, not caring the odd looks he was getting. As he walked home he didn't seem to mind that it was still raining lightly and it was still noisy and bright. Maybe the world isn't so grey and boring after all, he thought giddily.

(A/n- I thought of the idea for this while sitting on my dresser with the window open, cause it's raining. Although I get most of my ideas for fanfics while sitting on my dresser anyways. Hope you guys enjoyed this decently long one shot!)
