Jack walked into his apartment, kicking his shoes off as sighed. It had been a long day at work. "Kath?" He called out, only to be greeted by silence. He and Katherine, his girlfriend of two years, had been sharing an apartment for a few months now. "Ace?" He tried again. "Hey Jack! There's a surprise upstairs for you!" Katherine called back, and Jack grinned.
He walked upstairs to see Katherine sitting cross legged at the top with a bright smile on her face and a puppy in her lap. Jack gasped and immediately started petting and cooing at the small corgi. "Well hello to you too, love," Katherine joked. He stopped petting the dog for a moment to hug her. "So why did you get a puppy?" Katherine shrugged, "You've mentioned wanting to get one for like ever, so surprise?"
Jack hugged her again, "You are the greatest person to ever exist, Katherine Plumber." She laughed and started petting the dog, "What do you want to name her?" Jack thought about it for a moment and Katherine jabbed, "I swear if you name her anything related to Santa Fe." Jack lightly pushed her, still well aware they were sitting at the top of the steps. "I can't believe you would think I'd name our beautiful dog after Santa Fe." He said in mock offense. "Let's name her Sunshine, she seems like a happy little puppy."
Sunshine jumped up onto Jack's lap and started licking his face. "Awe I think she likes the name!" Katherine smiled down at her boyfriend and their new puppy, with pure love in her eyes. "Or maybe she likes you," Katherine responded. "Well I can see why," Jack quipped, still being licked half to death courtesy of Sunshine. "I am quite the like-able person, ain't I?" He asked smugly. Katherine rolled her eyes, "I suppose so, but you don't need an even bigger ego." Sunshine barked and stared at Jack. "See? She agrees!" Katherine laughed.
Jack let out a chuckle, "You guys are mean." Katherine kissed him on the cheek, "You love us though." Sunshine decided to trot down the stairs and explore, and of course Jack followed after her. "Yeah I do!" He called back, as Katherine got up. "Where are you going?" She asked, puzzled. "Where Sunshine goes, I go." Jack said as he along with Sunshine, walked into the living room.
"Y'know we need to get her a leash and food and stuff like that, right?" Katherine asked, walking in to the decent sized, decent for an apartment that is, living room. The small corgi puppy was staring out at the window, watching the world intently. She looked around to find Jack, but he probably had gone into another room to get something. Sunshine started barking at something, probably a squirrel, Katherine decided. "Sunshine?" She called out, and stifled a laugh at how quickly the dog's head turned around to look at her. She kneeled down on the floor and patted the space in front of her, "C'mere girl!"
Sunshine was about to walk over when suddenly, she something in the hallway behind them and started to bark and walk over to it. Katherine followed behind her, "What is it sweetie?" As soon as the words left her mouth and as she stepped into the hallway, she felt arms wrap around her waist. "What!" She spun around to see Jack, a smirk present on his face. "You nearly gave me a heart attack!" She exclaimed as Sunshine yipped at them, curious as to what was going on.
Jack simply laughed and kissed Katherine. She wasn't really surprised, this is exactly the kind of thing Jack Kelly would do. They pulled away and Jack cupped her cheeks, "Still about to have a heart attack?" He asked, his smirk turning into a small smile. Katherine scoffed but smiled back, "Impossible boy." Jack shrugged, "So about the stuff for Sunshine we need to get?" He prompted.
Katherine nodded, "Yep. We should go soon, there's a store a few blocks from here that should have mostly everything." Jack bent down to pet Sunshine, "Ya here that girl?" He asked her excitedly. "You're gonna get all kinds of goodies!" Sunshine barked and started licking him again. Katherine groaned, "You are gonna spoil that puppy won't you?" Jack slowly shook his head, but Katherine knew him well enough.

They came back to their apartment with more things than planned, much to Katherine's protests. They unlocked the door and heard Sunshine's happy barking from the other side. Jack opened it, dropped the bags on the floor, and scooped the puppy up in a hug. "You are so adorable! Yes you are!" Katherine laughed, "You are such a softie when it comes to dogs." Jack squinted at her. "No I'm a tough guy," he said, still cradling Sunshine in his arms.
"Yeah okay," she responded sarcastically. "Do you mind putting on her collar and leash and taking her out for a walk?" Katherine asked. "Sure," he responded, digging through the bags. "I'll get her food and water bowls all filled," she said glancing up at the clock that hung on the wall. 6:28. Jack put on Sunshine's collar and leash and was halfway out the door when Katherine called out, "Bring a bag."
He grabbed one and walked down the two flights of stairs. Sunshine trotted along happily, and when they got outside, she was dragging Jack to every patch of grass and every bird. Jack decided he didn't mind though, Sunshine was just too adorable.
