Julian's POV
Miranda was right.
A week passed since the tragic incident happened. The whole palace was in chaos when they found out. No body approved Dylan's decision. Some believed she was very irresponsible while the others thought what she did was intentional. Only the families who got their children back because of her decision knew the value of what she lost. Dylan didn't get a chance to deal with her pain. The cruel and insensitive words of the judgmental society killed her from the inside.
She didn't come out of her chambers at all. The council meetings happen without her. Her food is delivered to her room and no one is permitted to meet her. Not even Lucifer and Sasha. Only Dexter stays with her.
Dexter.
When we brought her back to the palace and he heard about the miscarriage, I expected him to lose his temper and do something reckless like he is known to do. I was prepared to stop him if he loses his control and unleashes his power. However, he came forward to take Dylan from my arms. He lifted her up and placed a soft kiss on her lips. He said-
"I'm glad she is back home safe"
That was it. Nothing more or nothing less.
Even though I hated the guy for his guts, I would have never wished for such a disaster to happen with him. In fact, I hope it doesn't happen with anyone in this world. They are hurt, they are broken. But they would never admit it out loud. Because they do not want to break the spirits of their soldiers and the people. For the first time, I felt happy to be thrown out of power. I can never be what Dexter is. I can never be so selfless and dedicated.
"You okay?" Desiree asked.
"I guess. Spoke to Dylan?"
She shook her head sadly, "Her chambers are still off limits. I don't know what she is going through. It must be very....tough"
"Of course, it is. They wanted that child so badly and..." I couldn't continue.
A soft knock on our door made us turn towards the sound.
"Who is it?" Desiree asked gently.
Sasha pushed the door open and smiled at us. The smile was forced. More than anyone else, Sasha and Luc felt very guilty. Sasha thinks it is due to her irresponsibility that Dylan lost her child. If Sasha had concentrated more on her mission and less on other stuff, they would have found a way to kill the hunters by now. While Luc on the other hand thinks if he had not wasted time in fighting with Sasha about her apparent departure, they would have made a little progress in finding the end of the hunters. Though everyone is busy blaming themselves for what happened, I knew from personal experience that fate cannot be changed. What happened was meant to happen. The prophecy can't be stopped.
That is what is freaking me out more. The next lines in the prophecy talk of their victory. They would rejoice. Does that indicate the end of vampires? Who is going to get hurt? Are we even heading in the right direction?
"I don't know if that will help"
I snapped back to reality and frowned. I lost track of what they were speaking about while being indulged in my own thoughts.
"What?" I asked.
"Dylan attended the charity event today" Sasha said.
"Really?" I rose to my feet.
Before I could ask anything else, Sasha spoke, "She isn't that charming Queen anymore. She looks so dead, Julian"
"Oh"
