He cleared his dry throat as he approached her. She, like the rest of the class, was packing up her stuff for the next class.
"Do you want to meet after school?" She stopped what she was doing and looked up at him. Her eyebrows were raised high on her dark forehead and a million emotions raced through or charcoal colored eyes. He couldn't read any of them and that factor scared him so much that he rushed to explain himself. " on the project. Do you, um want to work on it... After school?"
Why am I so awkward?
Her face relaxed slightly as her emotions stopped running. "Yea."
They were quiet for a second, each not knowing what to say but not wanting to leave either. Finally, when he was just about to leave, she asked, "Meet you by the picnic tables?"
He nodded his head, yes, and she smiled. At that moment, as he followed her out of their English language arts classroom, he was sure he would willingly give up his left arm just to see that smile again.
