August
I rubbed my eyes in a sleepy manner as I shifted my weight to my feet standing up. Looking in the corner of the room I see Jay had all of his belongings well what they left us packed in a cloth bag that had big bold letters the initials for Brown's Institution. It made me chuckle how anxious this dude was to get out of here.
He know as well as I know us being trapped behind these same white walls make a nigga feel depressed if they weren't already. Trotting across the tile floor to the tiny shelf I reached for my hygiene cleansing products so I can do my daily routine one last time in this place. Just the thought of a real shower with hot running water is going to feel hella good.
I can't think back to the last time I didn't have to bathe in a bucket supervised. They called them showers to make us feel better but we ain't dumb the shit is not a shower more like bird bath.
After I finished getting my self situated I grabbed my most valuable item I brought to this place my notebook. It might not be worth anything to somebody else but it was special to me. Like I said before my whole life was in there written line by line. It is the beginning to a fresh start me moving forward on a new slate.
"You boys ready to go?" Ms. Judy asked with a smile on her face. I almost jetted my ass out this room. The woman didn't need to ask me twice. We stepped into the hallway and there stood Olyviah and Nicolé at the front desk that divided our two separate hallways.
"Dr. Brown should be on his way down to sign the forms and you will come with me." It didn't take him no more than five minutes to make his way to us. His signature was needed on each on of our forms for proof that we were released temporarily. It wasn't for good so I know if I was bound to mess up I'll be sent right back.
"Okay guys looks like you are all set." He handed the paperwork to the clerk at the front desk and pressed the button unlocking the metal door leading to downstairs. Ms. Judy lead the way as we all walked in tow. I was getting ready to go step through the door when I felt a hand grab my shoulder causing me to look back it was Dr. Brown.
"Hey August before you go. I would like to thank you again man."
"Ah no problem doc." I could tell he appreciated that favor little does he know it helped the both of us.
"While you all are gone and not supervised under my watch 24/7 I need you to remember my simple rules. Remind the others if you have to. I don't want to say one person mess it up for everybody so you're responsible for what you do and deal with any consequences that follow." I nodded my head making sure he knew I understood every word and it was made clear.
"One more thing keep an eye out on Olyviah for me." With that he patted my shoulder and proceeded down the hallway in the opposite direction. I guess it was my duty since Dr. Brown has spoken. I chuckled to myself shaking my head. That's one thing he don't have to worry about.
Once I caught up with the others they were loading the truck. I inhaled a breath of fresh air the smell of freedom. I got closer one of the body guards occupied the driver seat. I watched everybody climb in with the exception Olyviah who was aimlessly looking at the ground.
I walked over to her placing my hand on the small of her back. Judging how stiff she was I could tell she was tensed but relaxed a bit from my touch.
"What ever it is ma don't worry I'm here." I said whispering in her ear. She picked up her feet taking baby steps toward the vehicle as all eyes were on us. I hopped in the backseat sat next to O who seemed less scared than she was about a minute go.
