August
"Wakin' up I tried ta move but felt somethin' on top of me. I looked down and see Olyviah layin' on ma chest. Damn we most def was up late last night writing. Might as well put in work while our creative juices was flowing. Both of us were in da zone.
I don't eem remember how we ended up on the couch like this though. Nicolé or Jay must have brought a blanket down. Gently moving Olyviah to the inside of the couch I removed myself from under her. The central air was on blast I felt the coolness blow on my skin causing goosebumps because I was wearin' a white beater.
She didn't budge one bit after I got up. I know she was tired I can see it all in ha face. The dark circles around ha eyes was sort of clearin' up but still visible. I think that's gonna be one of the challenges sleep.
Slipping on my black Nike sliders I went to take a leak, brush ma teeth, and find somethin' ta eat. Ya probably thinking what a fat ass but I'm a growing man. What else can we do here besides eat, sleep, and watch tv? Trotting to the kitchen I went in the fridge shakin' ma head at the sight. We almost outta food already with four adults in this house I wouldn't be surprised our food supply be gone within a week or so.
Looks like it'll be cold cereal this mornin'. I poured myself a bowl of Cap'n Crunch Berries and sat at the breakfast bar. Picking up the newspaper off the counter I read it while munchin' on a spoon full of cereal.
The first page had a story about ma old hood with another deadly shooting. I hate hearin' bad news. Seeing enough I turned to the sports section. I'm convinced it's a war zone ova there niggas want blood for blood. This gives me more of a reason ta become famous and get ma momma out the ghetto. It's no way shape or form a safe place to raise kids. She deserves betta and so does ma niece's.
Finishing up I drunk the milk and walked to the sink to rinse it out the bowl. Let me call Ms. Judy before we starve in this house. Scratchin' ma head I felt that I was in need of a haircut. I like ma curls but a clean lining should do me justice until I think about cuttin' it all off, which won't be anytime soon. Exiting the kitchen I went back into the living room to see O still sound asleep.
Where is my phone? I patted the outside of my basketball shorts. Glancin' around the room I spotted it on the floor near the entertainment center. I picked it up scrollin' through ma contacts for M's. Once I found her name I dialed the number wedging the phone between ma shoulder and ear.
"Hey Ms. J this August."
"Mr. Alsina what can I assist you with today? Everything okay? I could hear the pitch in her tone almost causing me to laugh. She might still be a little shocked seeing that much of me the other day.
"We need ta go grocery shoppin' can ya please send a driver ova here today?"
"Sure I'll do that right after we get off the phone."
"Okay thank ya Ms. Judy."
"You're welcome August." I waited until she hung up first.
Grabbing my notebook off the table I went upstairs to ma room. Time to do ma ritual daily routine then probably write some more. I'm hoping the rest of the gang is up so we can leave. I take any chances of getting out this house with the quickness.
After taking a shower I tossed on a pair of jogging pants and a t-shirt. No need to get all dressed up just to go to the store. When I was done I made sure to collect everything in hand because I wasn't planning on comin' back up until later. Closing my door I saw Jay about to walk downstairs.
"Aye Jay we in need of some food so we gotta make this trip to the store."
"I could use a walk. My muscles are sore as hell from practice yesterday. You won't believe who Dr. Brown got as my mentor."
