Chapter twenty one

Vincent's P.O.V.

"I smelled her! I smelled her!" Tessa exclaimed as she came running back to our hiding place in the woods.

I sighed, and sarcastically clapped my hands. "Very good job, Tessa. Honestly."I said sarcastically.

Alec looked like he wanted to rip my head off, and I grinned at the challenge of fighting with a very strong, old, vampire like him. Ha.

Tessa rolled her eyes, and glanced at Alec's furious expression. She glided over to him, and placed her hand on his shoulder. "It's okay. Vincent has always been an ass."She grinned.

I glared at her, and Tessa smirked. Alec shot me one of those, "Don't mess with my girlfriend" glares.

Tessa focused her attention onto us again. "So, yeah...anyways, Vinnie boy we have a lot to worry about."She said to me. I saw Alec laugh under his breath at my nickname.

I raised my eyebrows. "What now?"

She sighed, and leaned against a tree trunk. "Well, I smelled her. And I smelled Dana, obviously."

I nodded, urging her to continue. She took a deep breath, "But I also smelled two more girls, and a guy."She wrinkled her nose.

I rolled my eyes. It was just Dana's friends. Alec seemed quite alarmed though, "She has three extra vampires with her?"He stammered.

Me and Tessa burst out laughing. Even mistaking humans for vampires, was so laughable, my insides hurt.

"God no." Tessa gasped between laughter. "They're just humans."

Alec seemed relieved that he didn't have to deal with three more vampires. But that was just the look on his face. I finally caught some of his thoughts he forgot to protect.

Thank god. No more vampires that could put Tessa in danger. She's such a risk taker...

His thoughts trailed off as he realized that I could hear him. He glanced up at me while Tessa wasn't looking, and I smirked. Letting him know I heard everything.

But his thoughts surprised me. I thought he was conceited, and selfish...yet he wasn't worried about himself at all. He was in fact, worried about Tessa.

He should be worried. Everything he thought was exactly right. Tessa doesn't pay attention to things going on around her. She's not careful. I actually feel a little better knowing that some one besides myself, is looking out for her.

Alec grimaced and stared at his feet. He looked a little embarrassed. Like he did want a lot of people to think he actually HAD a heart...well, he doesn't have a WORKING heart, but...you get what I mean.

Tessa focused again. "What I'm worried about though, is killing these innocent humans. Probably by accident, when they get in the way." She shuddered.

Here is the weird part about my best friend: she loves the stalking of the kill. She loved freaking her victims out as they realize what she is...in a way, she's a monster. But I don't like to think of her that way.

But the reason why she loves it...the kill...is that she only hunts and kills the BAD humans. She won't stand for killing innocents.

Like when a gang leader, is getting ready for a drive by shooting with the rest of the gang. Tessa will come swoop in, and as the bullets they try to shoot her with just fly through her, she'll kill them. Quick and easy.

I've seen her do it only once, when a creepy man was getting ready to kidnap a kid in a big white van. She stopped the van, and immediately killed, and drank his blood. All without the little kid seeing anything.

That's why she's my best friend. She'll do what she wants, and what she likes best, but she'll tweak it a bit...so in a way, she's saving a community of creatures even more terrifying then vampires.

I turned my attention back to the conversation. "it's their fault they're in this mess. They know its a suicide mission to come search out vampires. It's not our problem."I know my words were harsh, but all I wanted at the moment was for Dana to come back to me, and her friends were getting in the way. I don't really give a damn if they live or not, they're not my priority.

Tessa's eyes raged with fury. "I will not stand for it, Vincent." She snarled. In that moment, she looked terrifyingly like a vampire, more than I've ever seen her.

I tried to keep cool, I shrugged. "It's not my problem. Don't kill them if you don't want too; but don't think for a second that they won't turn around and stab you in the heart with a stake."

Tessa's body began to shake with rage, and Alec tried to get her to calm down.

That's the thing with vampires, they're hard to control. Even other vampires find it hard to control vampires. They have so much emotion, brewing up inside them...that when it wants to come out, it darn well comes out.

"This is not going to happen, Vincent. I will not have innocent people die on my hand. I will walk away right now, and you'll be left alone to deal with it." Her eyes burned with fury towards me. Alec shot me a warning glance, letting me know to be calm about it.

But I wasn't calm. My emotions were brewing too, and they demanded to come out. "This was your choice to be here, Tessa. Leave if you want, but you know that you won't."

We both continued to glare madly at each other, until Alec softly spoke. "You two are acting ridiculous. Vincent, just try not to kill any humans. Alright?"He said carefully.

I glared at him, until finally I grumbled to my feet, "Fine."

Alec turned to her, "Stop being over dramatic right now, Tessa. You don't need to be. Vincent won't kill anyone unless he has too. You know that."

"Fine. Okay, whatever." She muttered.

Alec sighed, relieved he didn't have to fight against me tonight, because he would've chosen Tessa's side in an instant.

That's what sucks about love that you're never going to belong in.

You'll never be picked first.
