Chapter twenty

Dana's P.O.V.

"Hello? Reference? Yes...uh huh...thank you." Georgia hung up the phone, and sighed towards us. "Looks like there is no hotel rooms in this rinky dink town." She grumbled.

We were in some one horse town in Texas, and we were all getting a little impatient. On the bright side, Lauren said we were only a couple days away from coming face to face with Vincent.

On the crappy side, according to Lauren's tracking and sensing, Vincent had some help of his own. Two more vampires. It made me shudder at the time, but Lauren assured us that it was no problem for her.

On the other crappy side (that's right there was TWO things to freak out about), Lauren had gone into a deep depression. I've never seen anyone as sad and pained as she is right now. She said that it was because of her thinking too much about the vampire that she fell in love with. They guy who died saving her life.

But at the same time as she was depressed, she also seemed more angry and driven. It frightened us all.

Lauren shrugged at Georgia's annoyed attitude. "What does it matter? Sleep on the street." She scoffed.

Tom rolled his eyes, and Lauren glared at him. "have something to say, Tom?" I watched as Tom's eyes glazed over.

He shook his head, slowly and too controlled. "No. Of course not."

Lauren smirked, and then went right back into her depression by sighing, and slumping against the car seat.

Georgia glanced at Tom, and then at Lauren. She was about to open her mouth to say something, but then closed it.

There was something weird going on here. Everyone knew it. I felt like we NEEDED to stop this...hunting. That something beyond anything we could have imagined, was going down here, and it all revolved around Lauren.

But something was keeping us here, I don't know what...but my stomach would churn every time Lauren would look at me, praying that she wouldn't do something awful. I cringed, and my mind screamed in pain, every time Lauren gave me a special kind of...look.

"I'm kidding. I'll get us a place to crash. Free of charge." Lauren said quietly, serene.

We were parked in front of the hotel that we had just called, but Georgia said it was full. Lauren hopped out of the car, strolled into the hotel, and five minutes later she comes back, and announces we have the best room.

"How did that happen?" Ali asked.

Lauren shrugged. "I have good compromising skills."

Me and Ali shot each other a glance of misunderstanding. "Compromising?" I pondered.

Lauren whipped around to give me another one of those special looks. In a second, my mind felt pain within. It was almost a burning, yet I didn't feel the need to scream. Yet it was the most pain I've ever felt. "Nevermind." I heard myself saying.

We followed her too the room, and indeed, it was very fancy. Lauren DID have good 'compromising' skills.

Ali immediately started hopping on the bed. "Yay! This is so jumpy!" She hollered.

Lauren glared, and strolled off to the bathroom. When she returned, Ali started asking the many questions that she had thought of to ask about vampires. "Why do you have to that?"

"Do what?"Lauren said.

"Go to the bathroom. I thought you were dead." She said simply.

Lauren rolled her eyes. "if we eat human food, our body functions pretty normally."
