Carl's POV
I wake up with a pounding in my head. I try to touch it to see if I have bump or anything, but can't because my hands are tied behind my back. I can barely see anything around me because of how dark it is. Just then, I squint my eyes because of bright light that appears. A woman with raven black hair walks in and approaches me.
"Who are you?" She asked with a stern voice.
I debated on whether I should tell her anything or not. But then I remember what happened before I got knocked out. Blake.
"My name is Carl." I tell her.
"Well, Carl. I want to know what you were doing with my son?" She asked.
"I was helping him get back here." I answer.
"Now why don't I believe you?" She said before pulling out a knife and putting it under my chin. "Where are your people?"
"Gone." I tell her.
"How convenient." She said sarcastically before removing her knife. "Now the question is, what do I do with you?"

Blake's POV
I pace back and forth in my room. Mom told me to stay in here while she figures out what to do with Carl. I'm hoping that I'll be able to talk to her and convince her to let Carl stay here. When I hear the front door open, I run down stairs and see her closing the door.
"Mom." I said.
She turns around and faces me not looking too happy.
"I thought I told you to stay in your room." She tells me.
"What are you gonna do with Carl?" I asked.
"Well a few thoughts crossed my mind." She told me. "We could keep him here as our prisoner, but we can't waste the food on him. Then I thought about letting him go, but if he has a group out there, they'll come back and kill us."
"So?" I asked.
"He'll be executed in the morning." She told me.
"What?!" I yell. "You can't do that!"
"I can, and I am." She says walking to the kitchen.
"But he's not a bad guy." I tell her following her to the kitchen. "He could have killed me, but he didn't. And he doesn't even have a group and..."
"We are not talking about his anymore!" She yells at me. "And you are still grounded. Now go to your room. Now!"
I sigh and walk back up to my room and shut the door. I grab a chair from my desk and put it in front of the door so it shouldn't open from the outside. Then I grab my bag and open the window before I climb out of it.
I make sure to hide behind houses and trees so no one sees me. If they do, they'll tell mom that I snuck out. I see a guard standing in front of the house that they're keeping Carl in.
"Blake?" A voice says.
I jump a little, and turn around and see Tommy. And I sigh in relief.
"Good, it's only you." I said.
"What are you doing?" He asked me.
"I need your help." I tell him. "I need you to distract that guard so I can sneak in."
"Why?" He asked.
"Because Carl's in there and he's gonna executed tomorrow." I tell him. "I need to break him out so he can escape."
"Why?" He asked.
"Because he helped me and he's my friend." I tell him. "Now, are you going to help me or not?"
"Of course." He said. "I'll probably be able to give you 5-10 minutes, so work fast."
Tommy goes over to the guard and I see them talk for a few seconds. Then they both start to walk away and Tommy gives me a thumbs ups. I quickly sneak over to the building and go in. I go to a room and open the door revealing a dark room. I turn on the lights and see Carl tied up on a chair.
"Blake?" He asked squinting because of the light.
"I'll get you out of here." I tell him as I go over and start to untie him.
"That lady is your mom?" He asked.
"Yeah, she is." I tell him.
"Well no offense, but she's kind of a bitch." He tells me.
"Yeah, I hear that a lot." I said as I finish uniting him.
"Now what?" He asked as he gets up.
"We have to get you out of here." I tell him. "They're gonna execute you tomorrow."
"Yeah, she told me." He tells me. "So, how do we get out of here?"
"We can sneak out the back." I tell him. "There should be a ladder in the bushes we can use to get over the wall."
"We?" He asked confused. "You can't come with me. Your mom will..."
"I don't care." I tell him. "I'm going with you. I have to."
"Why?" He asked.
"Because I have to survive." I tell him. "And I can't survive just by sitting behind these walls. I need to be out there and learn how to fight. And if my mom won't help me do that, then I'll have to be with someone who can. Someone like you."
"Are you sure?" He asked me.
"I'm sure." I tell him. "Now, let's go before the guard comes back."
