Carl's POV

I followed Zelda after she stormed off. And eventually I found her sitting on a boulder in the middle of the woods. I walked over to her and sat next to her. I wanted to say something, but I didn't know what.

"What if it was Blake?" She spoke all of a sudden.

"What?" I asked her.

"What if Keith shot Blake instead of Joey?" Zelda asked now facing me. "Or Michonne? Or Judith? Would you still be over there trying to be all buddy-buddy with him?"

"Uh..."

I didn't know what to say. I never thought of that.

"You wouldn't." She answered for me before turning away to look back at the ground. "You'd probably kill him without giving it a second thought and no one would've said otherwise. But since it's me, it's different. Which isn't surprising since we are on the bottom."

"Bottom?" I asked her. "We?"

"Katie, Joey, Mark, Ted and I." She told me. "We're new which puts us at the bottom of the totem pole. If anything happens to us it wouldn't matter because you barely know us."

"That's not true." I told her.

"Yes it is." She said. "And that's ok, I'm not upset about that. I just...wish everything wasn't so fucked up."

"Zelda I..."

"Just leave me alone." Zelda said with an upset tone.

Zelda gets up and walks away. But before she did I noticed that she had tears in her eyes. I wanted to go after her and make sure she was ok. But I couldn't stop thinking about what she said about being at the bottom of the totem pole. And I started to think if it was true?

Keith's POV

After Carl went after Zelda, there was kind of an awkward moment of me just standing there not knowing what to do. I could see that some of the people were giving me suspicious looks, still not sure if they should trust me. And I don't blame them. I know it's gonna be hard for them to fully trust me, especially Zelda. But as long as we can take down Vlad, it'll be worth it.

"Hey." I see a girl come up and talk to me.

"Um...hi..." I said awkwardly.

"Joey's inside." She told me. "You know, if you maybe wanted to apologize for shooting him."

I could tell in her tone that she was trying to make me feel guilty, and it was working.

"Right, I should probably go do that." I said. "Thank...uh..."

"Katie." She told me.

I nodded before heading inside the cottage. When I get inside I see Joey sitting on the couch. He looks over at me with a very unwelcoming expression.

"You want something?" He asked coldly.

"I actually wanted to apologize." I told him. "I shouldn't have shot you. I don't really have an excuse to why I did it, except for that fact that I made a stupid mistake. I'm sorry."

"Look." He said before getting up and walking in front of me. "I don't like you and I don't think we'll ever be friends. But if you're serious about stopping your dad then I'll be willing to civil."

"Thank you." I tell him.

"Don't thank me. I don't think Zelda will be that understanding." He warned me.
